Default Ready for synthetic?

I was on another website when I read that putting any synthetic or semi-synthetic oil in a new engine is not good becuase the rings have not fully seated yet. It then stated that it would be fine after the 80 hour mark. What do you all think about that cause I am changing my oil for the first time tomorrow and I have the honda semi synthetic motorcycle 10w40 oil for my new z400.

Many high performance cars costing 10-20 times as much as your quad come straight from the factory running on 100% synthetic. The rings on those engines seem to be fine. A semi synthetic could be just about any mixture a company wants, there are no industry standards established. I also would not buy a semi synthetic oil. IMHO go 100% synthetic or don't waste your money.

Don't worry about your rings, your rings will have either become seated by the first oil change or they never will become seated.

I agree, you can use sythetic oil any time you want. Oil is oil, one is refined and one is build up from the molcule, but chemically they are the same.

I put motorx fully synthetic in my kfx. I just broke it in on the oil it comes with and then put the synthetic in.

I used whatever comes in the bike for the break in also, and then switched up to Amsoil 0W40 (For Wet Clutch Systems) and its been fine. Running syn in a older engine during a top end break in is a bad idea because your rings never wear into a cast iron type sleave the way they should. Newer bikes and newer engines in general are pretty much all plated with something. Your Z has a plating called Nicom from the factory I am pretty sure.

Synthetic all the way! I also use AMSOIL 0w40 for ATV wet-clutch systems with excellent results, and 10w40 and 20w50 for my sons' Honda and Yamaha dirt bikes. I also use it in all of my vehicles as well as my boat. Oil is not oil. Good PAO synthetic oil is superior by design, and can take the heat and cold better than any oil that is mined and then refined. As another reader posted, higher end European cars have been showrooming with synthetic oil for years. For some reason there is a great deal of misinformation out there about motor oils.

Best,
