Default King Quad smoking due to BAD FILTER! Pictures

I was at a local dealer the other day to talk to tem about getting my wifes '05' Kodiak in for her front tie rod recall and I asked the guy at the servive department about the king quad problem and he tells me he knows nothing about it. Just that I should use something other than the stock filter. With his response I'm thinking he must of heard something or why would he say to get rid of the stock filter. Who knows. Hopefuly something will come out of Suzuki for us all.

Hi Guy's and girls

I have had the air filter problem on my KQ, My engine is being rebuilt, along with my primary clutch. Suzuki is paying for the engine but not the clutch. This Atv has 739 miles on it.
I am supposed to get it back this week with a new Twin-Air filter installed. Suzuki does know about this issue with the filter. I did contact Suzuki. My bike is 5 months out of warranty,so thats why they are only going to cover the engine. I have to pay for the clutch and air filter. WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING HERE!!!!!

So have you thought at all about my opinions on the matter over on the Honda side of things, troubledkq, and decided to maybe hang onto your King?

TroubledKQ what a bummer. You may not have many options on he Clutch, as it is really a separate issue. After my rebuild on my KQ it runs great, actually quicker than my newer one with 1/3 the miles.

Iron Mtn. MI - God I used to love going there back in the 70's skiing and raising hell in Bessimer at Boobies, or whatever the name was of that bar.

How do you ride with all that fricking snow??

Will I be alright with my dealership installing just the uni filter as long as they grease the bottom or do I have to have the filter kit?

beardman,
My answer to this is no. Without the cage there is nothing to make the filter hold its shape and make the filter seal to the bottom of the air box. Without the cage, you just have the foam to try and force a seal. Not Good! This is my two cents!

The UNI is only offered as a kit. If you meant their oil/cleaning kit then no, any good filter oil will do (do not use anything but filter oil).

Geez, the dealer I bought mine from has a uni for $22. He has the filter oil. Its the foam with the uni lid. I'll see about the filter cage. My king has a cage around the stock filter. I don't understand why the uni will not hold its shape around it.

The aftermarket foam filters are larger than that little basket that is in the Kings air box. Cheep is not the way to go in this area. You need the whole kit to protect the King from taking durt / dust into the motor. Run some searches on air filter problems for the King. Without the cage there is nothing top make the filter seel tight to the bottom of the air box. Oil of grease on the bottom of the filter is not going to do the job without the cage. If your dealer is rying to tell you you don't need to whole kit then you need to find a new dealer. The one that you are dealing with is giving you false information.

Just to clear this up, I just got the Uni filter the one for $22, a cage is included in the kit. It is different than the TwinAir which they do sell seperately. You can throw your old filter away because you don't use it with the Uni, the Uni only comes as a complete filter, cage, lid, and the foam, you just need to oil it. I used $7 foam filter oil and it works great I bought it from my dealer, I think the Uni oil kit is $20.
