So I got my new Stator and cover gasket, so I decided to start the replacement tongiht. I had always noticed the RTV on the cover, but I never thought much of it. Sure enough, someone threw the chain at one time and broke the cover open. I spent the night repairing it correctly this time. I still have a little sanding to do, and some finish welding and then paint, but its coming along.

Lol its not as pretty as I would have liked, but its functional. I added a lot of extra material in the usual breakage area, so hopefully if anything ever hits this area again it doesnt do as much damage.

Hey all-

Sorry to hear about your wife's job, Trailrider. Hope things work out ok.

Nice bit of repair work, bashr52!

Found an '87 in the local Craigslist for $1200 obo.

I hope I don't have half that amount in my project before it's running again.

Any words of advice on front tire selection?
I'm not a racer. The quad will get low-speed duty on ranch roads- mostly dust and shale gravel.
Just looking for something cheap that will be sturdy and last a while.

Duro
Kenda
STI

edit:
I just went with the STIs. Seems like an ok price and no bad reviews.

Any tips on where to find a steering shaft bushing?

It sucks that Vince's Cycle stopped selling parts. I was looking forward to getting a full set of his custom plastic pieces.

edit-
Ah, nevermind. Found a bunch of parts on cheapcycleparts. Just took me a while to get used to all their drawings.

So, with the shopping near done all I have to do is wait for parts and wash and clean what's here.
Oh, and tear the head off to see what's up with a supposed crack that's keeping the thing from idling.

Say- there's a button missing on my left hand grip. Something that interacts with the clutch lever.

What's that for? Should I try to replace it?

Oh, and I see the rear brake has an arm for a cable actuation. Is that some sort of parking brake feature? Where is it actuated from?

Also-
on Cheapcycleparts they differentiate models with a letter: J/F/G/H
Which is the LT230S Quadsport? I think I remember some letter on the VIN plate, but I can't remember just now what it is.
edit: ah- put the vin in my phone a while ago- says LT230SF ser: JSAAJ43A8F2107172

So is it an 'F' model?
