Guys i have a '91 230s and i think its a great little bike, i never understood how good of a bike it was till i road a 300ex and realized my 'zuki is just as fast, but why in the world would you put all that time and money into on one of those things?
Maybe i'm just getting to frustrated with my quadracer rebuild but, just don't understand all the effort into the 230's

For me, It is taking something that most people think is nothing, and proving them wrong. My 21 year old stock 230 P.O.S always kept up with brand new 400's. Yes I have a 1 1/2 year old 400ex as well, so I am not talking out the side of my neck!
I am no where close to being a mechanic, so I get a perverse sense of pride to mod this lil unit all by myself (yeah right, without this forum I'd be toast)I got spoiled as a sponsered "rider" just had to say what I needed and they made it happen! Damn, I wish I had more skillz! That would still hold true today!
I've had/and have faster, but I have never found a bike that you could beat on, ride the **** out of regularly, work on myself and it craves more............
whatever you can do to it, it takes... AND asks for more!
Had the same thing with VW's back in the day.... Loved seeing the Camero's, Novas, chargers, etc lose in the 1/4 to my bug!!! they spent 10x the money to lose to a "sewing machine"!!!!

Yeah, I 2nd everything PG said! There is something about restoring something from times past. Not to mention in 1986 I was 13 sitting in school reading Dirt Wheels, ATV Sports, 3 &4 Wheel Action and doing a lot of dreaming. Anybody can go out and buy a new 300, 400, 450, or whatever... But not anybody can have a vintage quadsport that is just as much fun to ride. I'm sitting here now with aches n pains from holding on to what in hindsight might be described as a wildcat with a hot poker up its azz. And as I was out throwing dirt n rooster tailing around curves I was thinking, "What would I do out here with more power?". I can see needing a bit more lowend torque when the bumps n jumps get so hectic I can't find the time to downshift and I'm climbing the side of a mountain, but really,,, if I had any more power I would just spend that much more time going ,"oh ****" and squeezing the brakes. Maybe in the sand dunes out west, but around the mountains in the east anything faster than my 230 is either a waste or a death wish.
Btw, my 230 weighs 330lbs wet and loaded. 40 lbs lighter than the dry weight of a new 250. I can actually get it in the back of a pickup by myself and w/o ramps, not that its easy, but it can be done.
And consider the crankshaft stroke on the 230. At 67mm, it is longer than anything suzuki makes except the 250/500R (70/86mm) and the 300 King Quad (76mm)!!! Its even longer than the 450 (62.8mm) and the 700 (66mm)! That gives it a really unique feel in the powerband. And unless you want to live above 10,000 rpms its my opinion that the longer the stroke the better.

I know the raptor has nothing to do with this thread, but since I was on the subject of strokes I was looking around at wiseco. The 660 raptor has a bore n stroke of 100x84mm. The 700 is nothing more than an .080 over 660 and there are no more overbores offered by wiseco for the 700! The one 102mm piston is all they offer. So, if you have a 700 raptor and toast a piston, you'll have to resleeve. Anyway, I was thinking how cool it was that 1mm bigger piston got you 20 extra cc's. That's an advantage of the 84mm stroke. If we could do that with the 230, .080 over would be a 270, lol. Life is good when you got a long one!

Part# 01421-08205 Desc STUD 8X20 Price 1.68 http://www.alpha-sports.com/suzuki_atv_parts.htm
Bikebandit will have it too,,, the website at alpha is faster, so I use it more for looking stuff up.
Try a hardware store first. And if you live near a big city they will have a fastener place that stocks every kinda bolt you can think of. Unless you just dont mind waiting for delivery that is.
