Alright, been workin on the lt230s (87), got a quick question. I realized that the parts bike had more better parts ( rear brakes, rear shock, engine) than my quad, so I've been switching parts over to that quad. I need to switch out the kill switch, and my question is, are you supposed to be able to disconnect the black and yellow wire from the kill switch? I tried pulling on it pretty hard, on both quads, and neither of them seemed like they wanted to disconnect. Just want to make sure that they are not supposed to ( although it seems like they should) before I decide to cut the wires and solder them.

I can post pictures if needed,

Thanks!

Yes they can be hard to disconnect and hard to push back back together.

i just bought an lt230s a week or so ago, i am coming from a 400ex and before that a 500 sportsman. i also have 3 (yes, three) kawasaki bayou 300's. as some of you know a 400ex is pretty snappy compared to a 230. when i bought the bike it ran.....poorly. it was hard to start and smoked insanely bad (like a diesel with NO headgasket!!! but had plenty of compression, i believe the hard starting was a carb issue but i never checked the timing and i think it may have been off a bit. anyways i have it mostly apart now except for the suspension/steering, i like to be able to move it easily. i want to rebuild the motor or find another one. my bike is an 85 and has the first motor (1400ml oil capacity). thats just from what i've read. the stator cover is broke, 2 bolt holes ripped out of case, decompression setup is gone and has a bolt wound in, clutch isn't working. and the cylinder is at 67mm. it has a new piston/rings at 66mm which is stock bore i believe. the piston flopped around horribly in the cylinder once we got the head off which i believe caused the smoking, i want to do a stage 2 build and i would like to know BigMc's setup/spec list. if he or anoyone else took the time to read this i would love to have your opinions/ideas. Thanks, also not sure if the pics are gonna work but i'll try.....

Click on the chain link button to get links. click on the one that says IMG codes and paste it in your reply. It looks something like this, I took a couple brackets out so it wouldn't show the picture: (URL=http://s1149.photobucket.com/user/jughead122/media/Mobile%20Uploads/1480703_10202584145796073_660133427_n.jpg.html][IMG]http://i1149.photobucket.com/albums/o584/jughead122/Mobile%20Uploads/1480703_10202584145796073_660133427_n.jpg[/IMG/URL])

Anyway, nice looking quad, yeah, the piston is the likely cause of your smoking problem. You should be able to put it back together and make a nice runner.
