How did that a-arm project work out Randy? Have you had any problems with it?

Also, do you know the length of the LT250S shocks? A guy on ebay said the 250R shocks from an 87-92 model are 15" eye to eye.

Oh, and I was looking around a little last night and the 250R a-arms are quite a bit different from the 250S arms unfortunately.

 

A-arm project worked out great. No problems. Like I said before, it worked out so well, I hacked up the +3 (that you see in the pics) and added another couple inches... So they're +5's now. That puts me at 47-48 inches wide depending on how much weight I put on the front end and I still use stock offset rims with no spacers.

The 250s shocks are about 13 inches center to center. About 2 inches longer than the 230.

I figured the 250R arms were different. Once you get deep into fabrication of a-arms without merely extending the stock arms, you must have a decent understanding of wheel alignment. For an end product that is functional, its much easier to extend linearly what was already designed rather than re-design-to-fit something that was designed for a different frame.

Hey guys! Y'all are a little more advanced that I am and I hope my questions aren't too simple, but ya gotta start somewhere right? I had started my own thread, but it appears the lt230 owners just tag onto this one so I'm jumping in. I recently bought a used 1986 lt230. It isn't running but looks complete so it's my new project. Oh and I've never owned a bike or quad.

When I'm looking up parts I see model numbers like lt230e, lt230h, lt230s, lt230f, etc. How do I know exactly which one I have and what's the differences between them? Anything I should worry about?

Are OEM parts the way to go restoring this thing? I figured so, especially for some unique parts but what about a battery, air filter, oil filter, headlamp bulbs, etc?

What type of oil are these recommended to use? I know 10w40, but any particular brand proven or just the same stuff I put in my car? Same question for the gear oil.

Thanks and I look forward to the education. BTW, It's the model with racks and such. I plan to use it for hunting and low-key recreational riding.

 

cool, I finally figured out how to get some pics up on my page. I posted some of my 230 project as it is now, but plenty of upgrades still need done. chain, sprockets, swingarm bearings, ect.. ect...

 

well from the looks of your +3 project Randy, those extra couple of inches on the 250R shocks might be nice. The only thing that would be of concern would be their angle unless I made upper brackets similar to yours.

How much do you need to widen the front to bring it to the same width as the rear? From my rough quick measurements yesterday before I left for school ( [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-disgusted.gif[/img] ) was about 2" per arm.
