Default 85 to 88 Suzuki LT230S Quadsport help.

So I'm looking at Megacycle-Cams and they're quite a bit different from webcams.

Webcam's lowest performance cam has a .340 lift, and 244 degrees of duration @ .050.

Megacycles Cams have a .400 lift, 236 and 240 degrees of duration @ .040

So which yields higher performance? More lift for less time, or less lift for more time? Or am I interpreting this data wrong?

Oh and according to Megacycles, the stock cam is .324/.390, 235/237 degrees

You're interpretting the data wrong because the webcam is measured at .050 lift and the megacycle at .040. You have to ask webcams and megacycle for the other set so you can compare. Luckily, I already did that a while ago. I'll dig the numbers out later.

So what do you guys all have planned for your 230S's this year? It is the new year anyways. What projects are you starting or hoping to work on for your 230?

Man I wish these would fit.

Me? I just want to get my carb project done. Then I'm going to compare the 250S cam to the 230S cam and maybe the LT4WD cam. IF its a good year financially, I throw the webcam and the megacycle in there too.

I still have to get the new axle installed and I want some new handlebars.

Default 85 to 88 Suzuki LT230S Quadsport help.

Priceless info there guys that took a LONG time to compile. Write it down, print it out before it gets lost in here again.

My findings for the stock 230S cam don't jive with the number webcams or megacycle will give you. I don't know why, but I double checked everything and I know I measured my cam properly. I mean.... How could I go wrong on the lifts??? That's the easiest thing to measure!

The seat-to-seat measurements are confusing because nobody can agree what exactly seat-to-seat is. Traditionally, its .006 lift. But megacycle says they recommend .010 lash and said that is seat-to-seat. Webcams says on their page .004, but they told me .020 on the phone!

The stock cams have a lash spec of .001-.003 for the intake and .003-.005 for the exhaust. So, that is seat-to-seat for the stock cams. Obviously, if you change the seat numbers (or lash), you'll change the duration and the max lift. In summary, they make it as hard as possible to compare cams. I'm thinking the only way to really make an educated guess is to buy all the cams and compare them yourself.

I don't know how accurate this dyno2003 program is, but notice the webcam stage 1 out-powers the stage 2, LOL! And the reason the megacycle is kickin *** is the ramp rate. I know don't know if the calculated ramp rate is correct, but I'm sure its close because of the massive .400 lift that cam has and a relatively low duration. Low duration + big lift = high ramp rate. The steeper the ramp is on the cam, the faster the valve opens. Ideally, you want the valve to be 100% open when its time to open, but you can't do that with cams. You can get pretty close with rollers though. That's why rollers are so cool.... You can make the cam lobe with super high ramp rates.

I've been fooling with these programs and 230 cams for.... years now I guess... and the megacycle has always been on top. Stock has always been a decent cam. And Webcams has always been somewhat disappointing. However, everybody buys a webcam. Only one guy I know of since I've been posting here has bought a megacycle cam. He said it was a powerful cam, but nobody knows if its better than webcams or not. Everybody else has webcams and loves them. So, I don't know....

Default 85 to 88 Suzuki LT230S Quadsport help.

hey guys im finally getting work doen to my 230 its an 87 lt-s 230 so far i have new left side engine cover, chain guard, rear 22' duro low profile tires, suzuki performance rear shock with rezzy, and next invest is 1.5' or 2' wheel spacers for front and a 2' durablue extended axel. bike alreayd has cobra pipe and msr bars. i was wondering im not to sure on if i should send back my 22' tires and get 20s because i do not like look of bigger tires and how they look closer to the fenders. I find it throughs the look away from bike. anyone know if with my stock rim i could send my 22's back and put 20s on or will they look just find where they are low profile? also wondering if anyone has a k & n filter or uni filter if so which one seems to be better and does this add any power to the 230 in any way. also wondering about the stage 1 cam would this fit into a stock 230 and what kind apower would it add to her. Also i got a tripple over sized piston to go in the bike

Hmmm looks like I've missed some excitement

penney:
I have 18" tires on 8 inch rims. I like them, you just have to be aware of rocks. I don't know if you can get an 18" tire on the stock 9" rim. I say go with the 20s, you won't really notice the difference in ground clearence and they will be lighter.

as for cams, scroll up the page a little and you will see all you would ever want to know
