haha i just got an offer for two from a old bikebarn. he said 100 bucks for the both for parts</end quote></div>
Two 230S's for $100? Thats quite the steal.
These are some nice looking shocks for a good price, I wish the guy would respond and tell me the eye to eye length though. they don't look too long.

They appear to be 13.00 inches. http://www.worksperformance.com/pdf/app_guide/atv.pdf
The spring doesn't look too much different than the 230 springs. They only have 3 soft coils and 4 stiff ones. The 250s springs have 6 soft coils and 6 stiff ones.
The Raptor 250 shocks are 13.75, but they're not dual rate springs. The Warrior shocks are 14, but I can tell you those suck... Got one in the garage now. The 250EX shocks seem ok. Have one of those too, but if I remember right, they're not adjustable.
Wow, I didn't know the 250S had such good shocks.
Like I said before, the 250 is a HUGE improvement over the 230. It was Suzuki's answer to the 250x and the mojave. But by the time they finally got around to releasing it, it was too late. They lost too much market share and after that, suzuki didn't offer another sport or race quad for 10 years!

You guys can get cables from walmart in the bicycle section. That's what I use. Same stuff, but you might have to file the lead ends a little. I can't remember. But they only cost a few bucks.

The quad you have appears to be a lt230EF, lt230EG, lt230EH, or lt230EJ. F=1985, G=1986 and so on. http://www.alpha-sports.com/suzuki_atv_parts.htm
The 10th digit of the vin is the year.
Whatever parts you want to get are fine, oem or aftermarket. Aftermarket are generally less expensive.
Don't use car oil! Could cause your autoclutch to slip. Use something that says "for older vehicles" like 1988 and older. Or else use something just for motorcycles. The new API (SL?) stuff will make your clutch slip.
Gear oil doesn't matter.

So, what's the F for in LTF230G?
BTW, thanks for the tip about the oil. After I posted that I went to the Suzuki place and they told me I needed different oil. I didn't know if they were blowing smoke or not, but I bought it. Oh, and no one there knows anything about a 1986 model anything. They were surprised I was fooling with it.

just got a pair of 250S shocks on ebay for $60 after shipping. they look to be in decent shape. They'll just need some paint.
By the way what kind of paint do you use on springs? Is there some sort of more rubbery paint that won't chip away?
Now I need some A-arms..... If worst comes to worst, I'll hack mine up and do your extension kit idea Randy, but at this point, I still have some patience.

Cool!
I just use spray paint. Doesn't chip unless you spray it on rust or something. Just paint it in one pass and no thicker than you need to. Get a thingy of touch up paint from the auto paint section for scratches n that.
On the arms, it depends on if you want to settle for 2 inches or if you want more.

with the bicycle cables though how do you get the bend into the carb? and do you know the length by any chance?</end quote></div>
I don't know the length. Just get the longest one they have if you want.
Use the bend you already have. Pull the old cable out of it. Cut the end off the new cable, then pull it from the sheath and thread it thru the elbow and back through the sheath. Trim as needed.

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>Originally posted by: AlabamaDanThanks. I think my exact model is LTF230G. So the G at the end is for 1986. What's the F for? The reason I ask is that when I look at these parts diagrams there appear to be different fische for LT230G than LTF230. I don't know if the parts are different but the fishce is.
So, what's the F for in LTF230G?

How do you know you have a LTF230G? As far as I can tell, there is no such thing. Certainly not in 1986. There is either a LT230G or a LTF230. http://www.alpha-sports.com/Parts/SA86.htm
Did you locate the vin number on the frame? Is the 10th digit a "G"?

hey guys, i know it's been awhile but i did get the carb options figuired out over the summer. the tm28 carb will work but not that well. i did test a few tm28-1 carbs and they work unbelievable, they are the same as the tm28 but have an accel pump in them. there are a tad hard to find in the US but they come stock on the drz250 bikes so you can get them from the dealer or find them on ebay. hands down the best performing carb with the stage 2 web cam. i also tested the 300ex 36mm carb too, worked very well and made some great top end power, i would have opted with the 300ex carb but it's a tad on the large (size) side so i decided to go with the tm28-1 on my race bike. i am thinking i need the stage 3 webcam, has anyone on here ran it? the stage 2 has enough duration but not enough lift for the hp#s i am looking for.
