I have an '05 Eiger and have the same problem, the dealer says that it was just extra oil from the filter.?.

I'm not sure how you could get engine oil into your air box but I'm sure it's possible, so as long as it feels like sticky, gooey oil, then ur ok. Thats whats on your air filter, it helps trap debris.

oil can come from the crankcase vent into airbox....Oil will go into the airbox if it's overfilled and your approaching Mach 2 on it...

I have garbage in that little trap at the bottom of the airbox all the time. It's always oily.

I had a major problem of always getting water in my air box. Not just normal everyday riding water....Im talkin like 3 cups worth. Im not sure if there is a gasket in between the actual air box and the lid, but that is where the water was comming from. I siliconed the hell out of it and i have not had any more problems so far.
