Z400 remote oil tank, overfull
#1
This is my first bike with a remote oil tank and when I went to check the oil, it flowed out of the tank as soon as I opened it. I thought it might have been because the engine was just running a few minutes ago, but I checked it again after the bike sat overnight and the same thing happened. I take it this means the tank was overfilled?
When the bike has been sitting(cold engine), there should be no oil flowing out of the oil tank when I unscrew the cap right?
I assume the previous owner overfilled it, but how could he have overfilled it that much?

What year is your Z? If it's an '05 or '06 this might be signs of a bigger problem. The magnesium covers are causing a corrosive problem with the coolant (I'm sure everyone is aware of this now) and after time coolant can get in your oil and cause the over filled situation you described. If you just bought the bike I would change the oil anyway, I bought a used Z and the previous owner had the oil filter in without the O-ring seal.

The best way to make sure you dont over fill the oil is when you change your oil there is a sticker on the side of the oil tank it says 2000ml put in 2000ml and then run the bike to operating temp turn it off and let it sit for a minute then check your oil I have noticed when I change mine even when putting the correct ammount in you might still need to add a splash. I used to over fill mine because I dident let the oil run through the system correctly and I would just check it without running it you cant do that you have to let the oil circulate through the system. Hope this might help. And I woulden do what murder said by going somewhere nobody is looking and dump it out that would be irresponsible. Not to flame you murderer.
