pretty much any modification will void your waranty, unless you know your dealership and they are cool. but nobody will ever know if your make it stock again before you bring it to them like camo said.

I dont wanna bragg anybody but can any of you make the kind of wheelie that can flip the atv over with your modded vinsons ? (yes I can, I might as well put up a link to a video) and I have the modifications in my signature only. I cant see why people complain that the vinson lacks of torque or that its not possible to make it wheelie in stock form (and I have an automatic btw) I just wanna see if my machine is normal or maybe am I pulling too hard on the handles ? I dont know really... And for comparisons: on a 500 feet drag race, I just win over a 2003 sportsman 500 HO, I ruin my girlfriend's 2000 magnum 500 and I finish like an atv length behind a 700 kingquad or 660 grizz (these bikes all have stock motors). My top speed is about 57 mph on the GPS. It was 61 but since I added the 589 tires it dropped a bit, these are heavy tires.

working on the video right now

Pepete, weight and traction makes a lot of difference when trying to do wheelies. With the Hp and torque mine is making its hard to get the rear tires to stick. But with a gentle tug it comes right up and I can ride one all the way into 3rd gear and thats going fast and long enough. I could put some more aggressive tires on and take some of the weight off and a wheelie would be a breeze. I was happy when the Vinson was stock but am even happier with it since modded. Also pepete wanna race? j/k

no no no, loll, no race, I know you'd beat me, but I'm just stunned by the stock power of my machine. I wish I could modify the air intake even more and add an aftermarket exhaust... but they are illegal up here in the trails of Quebec. I bet that adds alot of hp thus increasing the top speed ... because I might win over the sportsman 500 ho on the 500 feet drag race but right after that he takes off and flies to near 71 mph on the GPS.... hell, I never dreamt about that on my vinny! And his machien is bone stock, except for the air filter and jets, just like me. I think he has a clutch kit but am not sure. And yes I do love my vinson as well, it feels just right on the trails and I go everywhere anybody else goes, and it feels sporty for the size and weight is has. I jsut wish I could modify it even more... I was thinking about a modified cam, or porting the haed, not sure yet. Maybe an iridium spark plug and syntetic oil wouldnt hurt either. I heard these machine runs better and longer on syntetic oil, saves a few thousands miles on the crank....

Hey Pepete,
I have a bone stock automatic Vinny and I can't get anywhere near a wheely. In fact, it doesn't matter
how hard I pull up on the bars. Mine doesn't even have a winch or additional front bumper so there's
no extra weight. It just won't pull up. There's a lag when you nail it for the first 1- maybe two seconds before the belt drive kicks in and you take off.

I had mentioned a vented airbox earlier in the forum but most of the guys thought that was a bad idea.
However, I did forget to mention that I do not mud ride much and just want to get the most performance out of my machine. **How did you vent it? Camozuki mentioned the Diamond G Racing Snorkel and I was seriously considering trying that.

***Also, how much do you weigh? Most of my problem is probly my weight. I'm a hefty 225 lbs. It's going to take a lot for me to wheelie no matter what I ride. *I did have a bone stock 2002 500 H.O. that would wheelie if you yanked up on the bars hard enough. In fact I think it felt faster than my current Vinson.....but that's just me.

Oh, and I would love to see that video.....

Thanks,
Motomonkey76

I have a winch on mine, and bumpers also ... but theres a technique to wheelie that much I think. Since its a belt driven transmission .... you have to have the clutch already engaged before you snap it and make it stand up ... I'll try to make it visible in the video I'll make this week. You have to be rolling like 1 mph, just so the clutch is engaged, then jump on the gaz and move your weight backwards (have to stand far on the seat and footpegs already) You'll also notice that I'm not skinny either I'm 6'1" and 230 pounds. Like camozuki said, the fact that I have aggressive tires helps alot since the needed traction to pull the weight and grip to stand is there. And if you dont already do it, I recommend running only on fresh premium fuel, around 91-97 octane. I personally run on 94 octane with antifreeze additive and it runs like a charm and never pings. When I run it on regular (87-89 octane) tho, the engine doesnt idle very well, bogs a bit in acceleration and I can feel the difference, so it's kinda important...

-I vented my airbox simply by taking out that weird looking rubber extension off the airbox, leaving it full open from the cover. I dont ride in mud much, well, yes but its not deep really, never really deeper than 3/4 of a tire height. And people tell me leaving the airbox open like that is bad as dirt will enter more easily ... thats true, but thats why there is a good air filter inside (I have a UNI and recommend twinair or K&N as well) i'm the kinda guy who clean his airfilter after each day of riding anyway so the dirty air factor is nothing for me. I felt like that machine was running too lean and needed more fuel to liven it up, so I switched the main jet for a 140, but then I realized it needed more air, switching to a UNI filter and venting the airbox helped for that. there are also other venting techniques that I tried and worked well for me (i dont give any warranty for that) that I can talk about if you want, but dont take these as guarranteed to work tricks ..... I saw the DiamondG snorkel thing AFTER I modified my airbox, but I didnt cut or broke any parts from it so I might consider that lil snorkel too. They are asking way too much $ for shipping it to me but oh well, maybe I'll find one somewhere else. Looks like a nice piece to me.

You guys should really give the DG a try. You wont be dissapointed and you still get the factory level air intake. Moto, also get the Dynojet kit for the carb. I probably would not get the HMF pipe til your warranty is up because they are a b***h to get on and off and the dealer could tell you have been working on it.

Hey all,
I too run nothing but premium gas in my bikes and ATV.....(Funny thing is that I run the cheapest stuff I can find in my truck. (LOL) So anyway, I don't think that's the problem.

I haven't done any rejetting because I haven't added any mods to it yet. It is very cold natured though. I have to use the choke every time I crank it reguardless of the temperature. Maybe a little pre-mod jetting is in order. What do you guys think?

I will more than likely try that Diamond G Racing Snorkel and a K&N air filter.

Also, I'll bet by what everybody say's that a good clutch spring kit would eliminate some of that lag when I nail it. The engine spools up and It takes off but It seems to have a dead spot for about a second or two before it fully kicks in. It would be nice to eliminate this. There are several manufacturers of Clutch spring kits out there but all the feed back on this forum is of kit's for oversize tires. I don't think anybody has tested one for stock tires. It would be nice to know which one of those works best. ***Hint Hint... Anybody out there with some knowelege on this is welcome to respond.

Again, I would love to see that video!!!

Hey Moto, as far as it being cold natured, try turning the mixture screw out about 1/4 turn and see if that helps. That may also cure your dead spot off idle. I cant remember if it had a cap covering the mix. screw or not. If it does it is easy to get out with a small drill bit.

alright guys, I have my video in hand ... even though I didnt do as good as I expected ... it rained all day so it made the tires slip a bit instead of gripping and flippin the thing entirely. You can clearly see it lift off anyway ... I'll work on a better one soon if you want it just pm me with an email or msn contact.... let me know
