2004 Vinson blowing the ignition fuse while riding down the road?
#1
I started having problems with my atv last weekend where it would burn the 15amp ignition fuse and just die. This all happens while riding on smooth straight roads or rough trails, it doen't seem to matter. It seems to do it in three's. I can change the fuse and take off and it might blow again in less than a minute. Eventually it runs fine with no problems. Last night we were riding a rough trail and it blew the fuses three times and then ran fine for the remaining 3/4 of the trail that was left. On the way home though we were riding down a city dirt road which was pretty smooth and it started blowing them again. I'm not believing it's a short to the frame, I'm thinking there is something else wrong.. maybe something getting hot? I still have an extended warranty on this atv but I don't know what good that will do if it won't blow the fuse for them. I'm almost to the point of just putting a 50 amp fuse in there and try to burn it up at where ever the problem is and then let the dealer worry about it. Any ideas?

I have a friend that has an Eiger like mine and it kept blowing the ingnition fuse also. We found that on that fuse in the factory harness the ignition, horn and back up light are all on the same line. His atv would run fine till he would run some added driving lights that he had installed. He had to rewire then to another power point on the atv and now everything is fine. Have you added any thing electrical to your vinson, I look at your pics and did not see anything but don't know how old they are. Hope this helps, OH and nice looking bike.

The only additions I've added are a winch and a rear driving light. The winch has been on there since right after I bought the atv and the rear light I put on there this spring. Neither of them are in use durring the blowing of the fuse but I do have a 12v hot wire running all the way to the front to a mounted handlebar switch for the rear light. It's possiable that it could be shorting out but I seriously doubt it since the wire I ran was sos cord. I'm going to pull all the plastics off here in a little bit and go over everything and see what I can come up with.. lucky me.
