Default Put the oil where?

I just purchased a 2006 Suzuki LT-Z 400. I went and picked up the oil and filter to do an oil change. In speaking with the guys at the cycle shop they tell me there is a dip stick filler area. I can find no such thing. The only area I see would be the “allen head screw” on the engine. It’s on the right side looking at the quad from the front. Top of the engine along side the cylinder head. This has to be it, but I just want to make sure. I had to order an owners manual because I didn’t get one with the bike. Can anyone tell me for sure on this oil change?
Thank you
Eliot

the dip stick is in the oil tank in front of the radiator. you remove the drain plug in the tank and the motor, remove the filter which is on the right side of the motor, then refill the oil tank, and welcome to the forums, how is boise right now? I was born there and used to live there 76-79. its been years since I was there, I have family up there

What he said and be ready for a mess. The oil tank isn't user friendly for draining purposes. and try to get the exact amount of oil in the tank for the entire system. It makes the process easier.

Your bike shop should have covered all the maintenance procedures with you. If not, go back and make them do it. It is required by Suzuki as a part of their customer service program.

Also, if you haven't gotten your recall for your magnesium side case to be replaced with the aluminum one, Don't waste your time or $$ yet. The 06's have a recall on the clutch covers and a oil and filter change is part of the deal.

Thanx for the heads up streetcar. What a cool place this is. Your help is much appreciated. I did buy this bike used so I'm not sure about the recall. I may try and contact the guy I purchased it from. He had just purchased it in March and only rode it like 3-4 times. I got a pretty good deal on the bike. I was so happy to get it.

I just got my 2006 Kawasaki KFX 400. I know the Z400 and the KFX 400 are clones. I actually haven't taken it out yet. But when should the first oil change be?

I ususally change my oil on a NEW engine after about 15-20 hours. I like to get the initial lubricants and metal out somewhat quick. Then get fresh oil in it. Some others may chime in ont 1st oil changes but many have differnt opinions about this.

I think the z400 owners manual says 10 hours. I seem to remember doing it around that time.

Wait till you get that thick goop out of there and put in some nice oil, you will feel the difference right away.
