Man don't be stupid, learn to do wheelies in 2nd high range, works very well for me. Just pinit and lean back at the right time it takes practice.

Default 2003 Eiger 400 Carb Problems?

I can't stress enough about how much you need to replace the fuel line coming from the petcock to carb and a good clear fuel filter and all the old rubber fuel hose on these quad's for that matter, everyone who keep's getting trash fouling up your carb's ! A case in point my mom bought a new lawnmower about 3 yrs ago , and the first year i had to clean the carb , did a complete valve job and everything i could think of to keep it running to no avail. I wouild have it running perfect , then the first time it was used to mow the lawn it wouldn't start or would start and run untill you starting pushing it would die and wouldn't start again. ! Man i did more to this mower than i ever had with any small engine i ever worked on in over 20 yrs as a small engine tech , when i went to get parts all the dealer's i talked to would tell me that thay hadn't had any problem's with this year model at all ! I finally got mad and made my mind up i wasn't going to let this engine beat me , i took the carb bowl off and found tiny grain's of what i first thought was dirt in the bowl again ; but this time i took a magnafing glass and could see it wasn't dirt but tiny peices of rubber ! The rubber fuel hose was rotting from the inside , i then took the hose to the dealer and showed him what i found ; the fix was a new tygone fuel line and a clear inline fuel filter and it has never failed to start on the first pull since ! Now keep in mind not all these new atv's use this old style fuel line , but a few older one's do most all new atv's use a premium type fuel hose ! I bought the tygon small engine fuel line used now on all engine from 2 stroke and 4 stroke's from stringtrimers, chain saw's to trackor's ! If they don't have it when it come's in my shop i replace it with tygon and install a clear fuel filter between the tank and carb. !!! On an atv i would check the strainer on the end of the petcock it may be stopped up from trash in the fuel tank , i would remove this strainer if it's stopped up ; you can get trash direct from your local gas pump's when their tank's get low ! I bought a new gas jug because all my other can's had trash in them , and i blamed it on my brother's who are alway's whating to borrow them and leave or lose the cap's ! And the first time i filled this new one i found trash in the bottom of the new jug , with no one to blame but the station's pump ! Well sorry for the novel , but if you're still having trouble with trash in the carb.'s Get the tygon fuel line and a clear fuel filter to install between the petcock and carb , you can get it at just about any small engine repair shop ; and for less than your atv dealer's charge for what i think isn't as good as the tygon hose !!!!! .....................williebee

Your eiger is either running on nos or you weigh less than 230 not to mention yours is 2wd and mine is 4wd with tires/wheels that weigh 25+lbs more per tire/wheel than stock. I ended up taking mine to the stealer who fixed it for one hours labor but it still runs like crap and I am selling it first of the year if I can find anyone wanting to take it off of my hands. At that point I am buying a renegade or a outlander 800 and there will be no more wheelie problems.

Don't be a jerk.

My Eiger will wheelie, too. Dry pavement, 1st high gear, or 2nd low gear.

I guess thats what all the crappy riders with more money than brains do, buy Bomb 800, and I'v see a bomb 800 get stuck it took 3 other ATVs to get it out, then a stock yamaha 450 when threw the mud hole with no problems. Those 800 are just way to big and heavy for real trail riding. Fox_Kid_263

I didn't mean to offend anyone but after another long day of riding on the bomb and the brute I don't think I will miss my eiger much when it is gone. You just have to work so much harder and it has a harsher ride when running fast with other sport quads etc. I have certainly had the bomb stuck, the eiger, and the bf750 nothing is invincible but as far as weight the bomb only weighs like 35 pounds more than the eiger and that is with larger heavier 26 inch tires so it really isn't that much heavier but ride most importantly ride on.

Not quite sure what light weight means on a Utility ATV. If one is 600lbs and another is 700lbs whats the difference there both heavy pigs. When I have a passenger on the back I'm not sure if I could tell if the passenger fell off without looking back once and awhile.

My old 2001 450ES Forman was over about 120lbs lighter than my Sportsman yet it could do nothing better, it got stuck easier, rode rougher and was much less powerful and alot slower.

I have a 03 eiger and it got some bad gas and froze in the line from the petcock to the carb ,so i cleaned it all up and it will only idle ,when you try and give it fuel it quits and od sputters but it does seem to run a bit better with the choke on .Would the petcock be bad and how can i check it ?

More likely dirt in carb, but if you pull the fuel line off, turn to prime and fuel flows full bore, the petcock is OK on prime. Next turn back to run and spin the engine over, fuel should start to gush out like it did on prime.

Sounds like a classic case of dirt/crud in your main jet. By leaving the choke on, you are allowing more fuel into the carb, which would explain why it runs better (since the main jet is likely partially clogged).
