Problem with 2001 suzuki eiger footbrake
#1
Hi All
I`m new to quad bikes, and have recently bought a 2002 Suzuki eiger 4 x 4 manual for towing a trailer about a large conjested hospital. The machine has 7000 on the clock. I did`nt get a instruction book with the machine but have had several hours practising on a field to find out what all the controls do.
The problem i have with the machine is that the foot brake when depressed dos`nt come back up and the brake stays on. I`ve checked the rear drum isnt binding and the the operation of the handle bar brake is fine....the brake comes on when you pull the lever and goes off when you release it. i had a look under the bike and the return spring for the footbrake looks a bit feeble.
Should i bother messing about with it, because as i say the handlebar brake to the drum works fine as does the disc front brake.
I`ve spayed the peddle with wd40, maybe it needs greasing??
Also, as i hav`nt a manual, can anyone tell me the oil/brake fluids etc i should be using on the machine and thier locations on the quad.
Thanks in advance
Neill

Sounds like the cable just needs lubed. They make a special tool that clamps on and lubes the cable. You might be able to just spray a lube on it and work it back and forth. Also check the pedal itself. Give it a shot of lube. The only issue with doing nothing would be if you accidentally bumped it down, it would be dragging and you may not be aware.
As for oils, There is gear oil in the front and rear differentials. Should be a drain on the bottom and a fill hole on the side of each. The engine oil is slightly different than a car oil in that it does not have friction modifiers. They can cause the clutch to slip. Your best bet is to go to an ATV dealer and pick up some oil and new oil filter. The filter should be a spin on, the drain on the bottom of the engine.
if you go to a Suzuki dealer to pick up your oils, have the service guy show you exactly where the drain and fill plugs are. They most likely will have one in the showroom.
