I havent rebuilt a 230 but all the ones i've rebuilt, you can do it without removing motor.I always remove the plastic and the fuel tank which shouldnt be to much trouble.Any other questions?

should be a T mark on flywheel and a M mark on crankcase.according to the book you should align these up when piston is at top dead center.

wen u take the cam out of it make sure u tie the chain to the frame so it doesnt fall into the motor. take off the left side case there is a line on the magnito it lines up with an indent on the block. ull now wat i mean when you see it. then back up top the cam and sprocket assembly only goes together one way and the two lines on the sprocket line up with the flat surface of the head. any more questions feel free to ask, Mike

do you have to worry about the timing chain to take the head off?

Do you have to loosen the chain tensioner?.I have what I would call the valve cover taken off....what are the next steps besides the timing chain process?
