Default Ordering new Yuasa battery for the Eiger

I can order precharged or with acid shipped separately for same price. Thinking precharged is the way to go. Opinions?

I don't believe the batters can come precharged. More than likely, when you receive your batter it will have a small jug of acid in the box with the battery. Simply fill each cell up to the line that is marked on the case, you want to make sure you get the same amount of acid in each cell. DO NOT ADD ANY WATER TO THE ACID! That process is just a fix after the battery has already been in use, and has lost some of its acid. NOTE: if you spill some of the acid simply rinse it off with water or a wet rag, or if it comes in contact with you skin wash your hands immediately. Leave the caps off the top so it can breath easier and hook the battery up to a trickle charger. Make sure it is a very slow trickle charger such as 2 amps or less. The slower the charge the better you are. I highly recommend using a fully automatic charger, the charging process will take approximately 2-4 hours and once it is fully charged the automatic charger will shut itself off. Once the battery is fully charged, place the caps on the the case. Some batteries have individual screw on caps for each cell, others have a strip with 6 push in caps that just push into the case. Next, install into your quad, motorcycle, or other off highway vehicle and go have some fun!

Or you could go to a battery store like Batteries Plus and get a new gel batt that is charged and ready for $45.00.. No Brainer,,unless you don't have a Batt store around you. JJ

Not seeing a gel for ATVs on their website. Do see a maintenance free for $50.

I could be wrong on the gel,,I did ask the guy " is this a gel batt,,can it be upside down or on its side with no worries" he said Yes and no problem,, So it may not be a Gel batt...But I know it's sealed and it started the ol' Eiger right out of the box. Also save your receipt and it has a 1 year no question warranty, They have given me 2 replacements for my DRZ... Not because the Batts were bad, I ruined them leaving the ignition / lights on. Batteries Plus is a great shop! Thats my 2 cents.. Good Luck either way! JJ

imo the Yuasa's are overpriced inferior batteries. I replaced ours with AGM (absorbed glass mat) units from Batteries Plus. Yes, they're sealed and pre-charged. I'll get the name and P/N and price I paid if anyone's interested....still have the boxes.

I have no clue what a new Yuasa would run for my 99 Honda Recon but as far as being an inferior battery, its the original. I not saying I am a foaming at the mouth Yuasa fan and I might go with something else but I sure can't complain with any of the Yuasa's I have had in my quads

Only reason I say they're inferior is because they're not sealed and not AGM, so they can't withstand vibration and heat as well, and can only be in a vertical position. Oh, and they wanted around $70 for the cheapest I could find.
My stock Yuasa YTX14BS batteries didn't even last two years....guess they couldn't handle the cold and the winch use very well.

My 03 Eiger was bought new in 2002 and the battery is still good. I run it about every week or 10 days to keep it charged when not on a regular ride. I've never had to put a charger on it. Be sure to read the article about the AGM battery on the front page down near the bottom in the articles section. Very interesting.
