Default LT250 Carb Problem

Hi I'm new to the group and hope someone can help me out. I'm no mechanic so I might be in over my head.
I have a 85 Suzuki Quad Racer that has been garage kept and hasn't been started in over a year.
This weekend I checked and replaced the engine oil checked the coolant etc. Everything was looking good until I added fresh fuel (the tank was dry) and turned on the fuel valve. Gas started running out of the vent hoses and wouldn't stop! What would cause this? Would I be better off taking it to a certified mechanic?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Default LT250 Carb Problem

floats stuck open, take your carb off pull the 4 screws off bottom and clean the float valve while your at it take the two brass screws out (pilot and main jets and clean those. after done reassembling it ,blow through the fuel inlet and turn carb upside down when you flip it it should stop letting air go through. hope this helps.

Hey thanks for your help-
I'll have to admit I was a little unsure about messing with the carb but your instructions were right on.
Thanks again.
Tomorrow I'll see if I can get it started
