ltz50 quad no power

I also understand there may be a washer or spacer on the carb guide and in the exhaust port side of the head. I will check tonight or tomorow night and let you know. I guess with taking all this stuff off it is getting lighter.

Taking out that spacer made a difference, but I see what everyone is talking about. It still could use just a tad bit more power.Luckily there's some light being shed on this situation because I was ready to burn this thing..
CT RACING has a full exhaust kit. Pipe w/spark arrestor & jets, Z50 (4 STROKE) '06-'07 $349.95 that's a bit pricey, maybe there's a discount for group buys....
They also have a ct racing cdi box on the way but with no release date yet...

ive started looking for a quad for my son and ive always liked suzuki products but the poor perfomace of the 50 had me looking at other manufacturers. if ct racing releases that cdi for this model that will make my desicion for me. all this imformation has been really helpful in making my desicion so far.

Great thread, I have a 1984 LT50 and cant get it to go faster then around 5mph. Once you about 1/4 of the throttle it completely bogs down. This thing has really got me stumped, I took the carb off cleaned it out put it back on still same thing. It didnt have the cover to the air filter when I bought it so I made one with a "sippy cup lid" yea I know but it really fit perfect. I drilled some holes in it to breath and have a foam filter cut in a circle sitting perfectly inside. So its getting plenty of air and it still bogsdown like its getting too much gas every time I press the throttle more then 1/4 the way.Ive tried it with a less air configuration more air and it seems like the idle and mix screws do absolutley nothing! They do but its almost like its delayed, I use premium 2 stroke oil, 93 octane gas, I mix at 32:1 (oil mixer was removed), new spark plug, and it very rarley smokes. It has a nice clean burn too tanish color on the plug???!!! Im going nuts, I really dont have the money to put it in the shop but Im baffled at this point. You can still ride it around on flat surface but the engine never idles correctly and you have to constantly keep reving the engine to keep it going or it dies. My next step is a new piston and rings but I honestly dont think it really needs it. ARGHHHH!!!!@@@!!!!!

piston and ring, your onto it mate. Just take the head off and you will find they are probably worn out.Sounds like it has been running without oil in the fuel. Very simple to replace the piston and rings, may pay to have cylinder rebored and go oversize with piston and rings if the cylinder has bad scoring.
I used wiseco piston and rings 1st oversize ($80 Aus) and cost $60 to rebore. She had some thunder after that.

Hi there Hally, the only reason I doubted the piston and rings was because it doesnt smoke and the plug isnt fowling?? Wouldnt it be cover in oil or is that just for 4 strokes with bad rings/piston. I know running rich on a 2 stroke will give you oil on the plug but wouldnt a bad set of rings do it too? I guess it cant hurt to swap out the piston and rings in a 24 year old atv...
Hally, you said that it isnt that hard, the one time I ever tried to change a P&R was on an old xr80 and I couldnt get that thing back together for the life of me!! Now Im thinkin that maybe a stroke will be alot easier because of the no timing chain and cam deal.

Mate its called lack of compression, rings are worn and the piston has probably grabbed the cylinder at some stage. I'm a mechanic but its simple cobber.
Remove fuel tank.
Remove carby and exhaust flange.
Remove the 4 x 10mm head nuts.
Remove head
The only prob you will have is removing the circlip from the gugeon pin at the pistin end.Make sure you put a rag over the opening inot the crankcase just incase you drop the circlip.
Any probs get back to me
