Update...

:-) I have no additional info as of yet... I'm stuck waiting for my local dealer to get me a Z90 CDI and some parts for my wife's KQ that got rolled last weekend.. I might have something in about 2 weeks, I Hope....

Oh and a CDI box from a 2 stroke motor won't work on a 4 stroke... ;-(

I bought my son a 2006 LTZ50 in Janaury of this year. It never ran properly from new. Turns out it sat for a year on the showroom floor because they are 4x the price of the units from China. Anyway $100. later the carb is cleaned out and it runs ok. Top speed stock was only 8 mph with ok but not great tourqe. I read about the washer in the cvt transmission and removed it no problem. It now tops out around 15 mph. We removed the plug in the exhaust pipe but seemed to make our tourqe problem much worse. We have many hills and sand we ride on here in south Texas and it gets frustrating to ride behind him to push him over small hills or through 3 inches of sand. I will try the airbox idea and unplug the exhaust again to see if more air helps and will let you know. My dealer herre told me there was nothing you could do to make it go faster. They also voided my warranty when they found out I removed the spacer from the transmission. "no problem there was only 2 months left" I would be happy to here if the cdi will fix this problem. sorry for the long post.

G'day chris

still waiting to see if hybrass has had any luck with the cdi from the 90. My little bloke races his ltz50 and gets left behind by the lta50. I run a 98 octane fuel in it. seems to go a bit better mate.

As I have mentioned to others on this site I have contacted several companies that make cdi unit and none have any in the pipeline being designed. So I guess we wait. I would buy my little bloke a lt90 4 stroke but he can't race this until he turns 8. He is 5 now so we have a wait.

there seems to be alot of these bikes around. My mate has two yamaha raptor 50's and he sent away to the USA for cdi units. The differece is fantastic.

anyway goodluck and I will let you know of any news.

I cut a large hole in the intake box over the weekend and re-assembled the airbox. I also removed the plug at the end of the spark arrestor. It has great punch for about 2 seconds before it dies. I put the choke on and screwed the throttle back to about 1/2 way and now it seems to have power to climb off its own shadow but no top end. Top end is down to 12 mph. It seems my hole may to to big on the air box. This week I will try to get more fuel in her if possible and set the idle up a bit higher. I called a local dealer about the part you spoke of. It is $200.00 and not returnable if it will not work. So I will wait with the rest of us on the other venture. Will let you know about the carb adjustments.

Jickdaddy, Hally and Co,

I'm still waiting on the CDI, it looks like it maybe here late next week. Hopefully over the 4th of July Weekend I will have some results to report. And yes you are right it is not returnable but a kindly parts man can fix that.... In the meantime if I lose 200 for something that doesn't work it is not as bad as the 2grand I have paid already.. If this doesn't work the boy will be getting a TRX90 with smaller controls...

More later,

Hibrass

I've been reading everything you guys have written about the Ltz50 so decided to join the forum... I'm excited to see if that {cdi} from the 90 will work... I called procom and got on the list for there {cdi}; if and when they have enough demand for it... I hope someone comes out with something soon because my 6yr. old rather ride with me or her mom than ride her 4wheeler... I should have bought her a big-wheel from toy-r-us it would have been way cheaper and probably just as fast...
I just bought this thing about a week ago and just found out about the spacer in the transmission... but the way some of you guys sound I'm not gonna get my hopes up..

Hey, folks, I'm really sorry to hear about these power problems with the LTZ50, but it should in the end be fixible somehow. Perhaps it might help to know that our Arctic Cat DVX 50 had to be modified for more speed (taking the variator restrictor ring out like some of you did, which took it from a 9 mph max to 14 mph, and then larger tires which took it up to 19 mph), but power was NOT one of the problems - it took a 270 lb. guy up a hill no problem. Also, we could have gotten an aftermarket unrestricted CDI box on eBay if it was a 90, but no such luck for the 50 (BTW it is a 2006 4-stroke, whereas all previous years' 50's were 2-stroke.) How about some clutch mods to increase low-end power?

Remember when I suggested selling the 4-stroke LT-Z50 and buying a good used 2-stroke LT-A50? Now you know why....
