Default New belt slipping, then seized up! ??

As the topic says, I replaced the belt on my 2003 Eiger auto 4x4.. I took it for a test drive and it was slipping pretty badly (full throttle was only about 30mph). Then while headed back home to check it out, the thing seized up at about 3/4 of a mile. I assume its the belt that siezed, it smells like burning belt. It will not start, and is very tough to turn over by pull-start.
Why did this happen? It was running OK before the belt change, but it was making a funny "whrring" noise from the old belt being worn out. This noise went away with the new belt, but obviously I have bigger problems now.

(There was a slight groove on the surfaces of the belt drive assembly, but I didn't think that would cause any problems. The rollers look OK, no flat spots..) What might have caused this belt to seize? How can I fix it/prevent it? I haven't taken it apart yet..

Thanks

well, turns out the exterior nut on the belt drive shaft part came loose and ground itself, and the threads of the shaft, into the side of the belt cover/housing.. thus seizing it up.. oops.. (lesson learned, 1/2" drive impact guns not that great for precise torquing )

I had the same thing happen when I installed my clutch kit. I don't think it was the torquing of the nut, I think if you don't make sure to lift the belt up out of the way while tightening, the nut doesn't get installed to the right depth. Good luck getting the oil seal out to replace the bearing. I couldn't get any tools in there so took the cover to the dealer and paid them 20 bucks to get it out.
I'm surprised yours wouldn't turn over though. Mine ran fine, just wouldn't go anywhere...... Luckily it's running better than ever now despite my stupidity.
