Default LTZ50 vs LTZ90

I joined this forum because many here are tinkers and seem to have good product knowledge.

I have a choice here and seem to know where I'll go with it but I'd like some input from you guys please.

1. Kid - 6 years old - 50 lbs. He's been riding for a couple of years. He rides the Suzuki 500 4x4 while his mother goes along side and puts manure in the cart. He has mature riding skills for a 6 years old. Presently he rides a chinese 50 cc atv and has dumped it on its side a couple of times with no injuries.

2. Land - farm land with small rolling hills. Mostly grassland.

Now I'm looking to get him into a quality product that actually is reliable and saves me from changing spark plugs all the time and fabbing parts. I was looking at the ltz50 and had read the power upgrade thread. cdi , wieght removal, etc. However the ltz90 isn't as large as some other 90's and the size I don't think is a major issue since he's still growing.

I live in Canada so the bikes are more here. My dealer has a new 2k6 ltz50 for $1650. Today I found a new 2k7 ltz90 on the net at a dealer 2 hrs away. (cost $2000 - my dealer wants $3200 for a 2k8.)

I hope I can get some feedback from you guys on which way to choose. In Canada we don't have age restrictions for atv sizes. I'm going to call the ltz90 dealer tomorrow and if the bike is there I'm almost certain I'll drive up and get it but I was hoping you guys can throw me your 2 cents first.

Remember by the time I add a cdi and other things to the LTZ50 the cost would be about the same.

I would go for the 90, and as he grows, you can upgrade that, instead of upgrading your upgrades, which usually cost more, if even possible.

Default LTZ50 vs LTZ90

I might be able to help, I currently own both bikes you are looking at. My 7 year old rides the ltz50 and does great. He has been riding since he was 4. It will run about 28mph and climbs fairly large hills NOW. My 10 year old rides the ltz90 (dont tell the authorities). His also has no restrictions on his bike and it will run close to 40mph. Both speeds in my opinion are plenty fast enough. We ride mostly wooded trails and these bikes hardly ever see these speeds.

My 7 year old proboly has about 1 year left riding the 50, then he will get his brothers bike. I really like the way he can completely handle the wieght of the 50 now.
He has a bit of trouble with positioning himself on the 90 going up hills and the break controls are big for his hands. He just doesnt look comfortable on it. I am sure if you change the controls on the 90 and leave the restrictors (sp?) on for a while your son will be fine.

Just some advice, be careful with the small kids on really large bikes. My sister had her 7 year old pulling a cart to pick up grass on a small 250 when somehow the choke was hit sending to much gas to the bike. Needless to say the kid didnt know what to do. The bike was only in second gear so she caught her and pulled her off. Noone was hurt but the bike hit against a tree and bogged itself out. I am not one to tell you what to do but it changed some of the things I had been doing.

Hope I didnt completely kill the mood.

hey outof$ - I read you in the upping a z50 thread. I really got a feeling that a 50 cc will be outgrown after this year. I have no problems leaving the restricters in for now.

The biggest problem with the chinese bikes are no bottom end. If the kid stops when going up hill he needs a push to get going. The chinese bike has no belt drive so I can't do weight mods. I could change the springs on the throw outs but it's just a crap bike. I know a 50 can be modded but it'll end up costing the same as the ltz90. The polaris and other 90's seem alot larger so I'm looking at the Z90.

Well I went out and bought the Z90 today. A dealer 2 hrs away had a Suzuki demo. A bike Suzuki reps took around for rides to try. Good shape - no scratches and full 6 months warranty. Got it for $2300 taxes in. A new one was going to cost over $3700 after taxes.

Easter Bunny's going to give it to him tonight.

Well it's about a month now since I bought the Z90. It was the better choice. I have left the restrictors in and actually turned down the throttle which shows we have room to grow.

The bike climbs the rolling hills with no problem even with two of them on the bike. My kid has no problems handling the bike and can actually pull it out of the garage himself. Remember he's 6 years old and 50 lbs.

The bike gets ridden all the time by my son and the two boys my wife looks after. These two boys are 11 and 9. The bike still doesn't bog down with either of them. It does when I'm on it but that's 160 lbs, however it can still climb the hills. It's burning clean on regular fuel and starts every time. Simple reach to the choke by my kid. Again it was a great buy. One of the smallest 90 cc out there.

I have a LTZ90 and want to remove all the restrictors. Anybody know who many there are and how to override them? I need to improve the overall performance of this thing. My son has a PowerWheels that is almost as fast. Thx in advance for any advice you provide.
