Default LT80 carb tuning help needed

My sons stock 2001 LT80K1 runs like a scalded dog but smokes quite a bit (esp on throttle) and smells of gas. Plugs generally seem wet/fouled too. Obviously, it seems to be running rich. What is the procedure for adjustment? There appears to be only one screw on the carb for idle speed. I have heard that could be a combination idle speed/mixture screw but the manual says nothing about that.

Thanks for the help!

Jay

Welcome to the forums.
Like you noticed, there is no fuel mix screw.
Smoking is normal. Some oils smoke more/less.
You can put a 90 main jet in (down from 92.5) to lean it out a lil.
They are jetted way fat from the factory.

Some smoking may be normal, but this seems like a bit too much. And like I said, it smells rich too. I will re-jet it as a last resort but how should the idle speed screw be set? Does that regulate fuel mixture at all? Thanks again for the help.

The idle screw is just that. It does not effect the air/fuel mix.
Set the idle screw where the machine idles correctly.
What oil are you using?
