Default 96 Suzuki Quadrunner 250 timing trouble -

How do I know which stroke sparks on my 96 Suzuki 250 2 wheel drive quad. I am putting the cam in as pictured but how do you know when you are at true TDC when its firing and the valves should be shut? You are supposed to set the cam at TDC but it has to be the right one . . . so how can you tell when its the one that fires? Someone told me the timing plate is where I might see T14 or T23 marks and be able to go from there. How do I get where I can see that? I have the plug open and I can see the mark ont the fly wheel, but again, I don't know for sure on which upstroke to set the cam.

Thanks either way for taking the time to read this.
