2000 Suzuki King Quad 300 - looking for info
My son and I are looking for a used 4WD utility quad. We've never owned a quad before, so we're looking for a little advice.
We found a 2000 Suzuki King Quad 300cc with about 1600 miles on it that is for sale by a private party locally. We didn't look at it yet, but from the pictures we've seen, it appears to be well taken care of.
Can anyone tell me more about this machine? Is there anything special that we should look for when we check it out? Assuming it's in decent condition, what would be its value?
Any other advice on finding a used 4WD utility quad?
Thanks

kbb trade-in is $1390, i would pay no more than $1,600 myself. check that it starts/runs/drives just fine with no problems. 1600miles is not alot, so not much use. check the wheel bearings by jacking up one end at a time and shakeing the wheels. if there is a good amount of play in the wheel it needs new bearings, but doubt that it will. make sure thw shocks arnt worn out ether.
other than that i cant think of much else to look for. all the brand name 300's where/are good mechines.

Thanks for the quick reply. we're also looking at a 2002 SUZUKI LT-A400 K2. It's a little newer, and only has 511 miles on it, but it's not 4WD.
I've heard people say that with some of the aftermarket tires, a 2WD machine will go almost anywhere a 4WD machine can...or, I've heard people say that a 2WD with a winch will get through more than a 4WD by itself.
Anything to look out for on the 2002 SUZUKI LT-A400 K2? Is that a decent machine for a first time buyer? Assuming it's in decent condition, what would be its value?
Thanks again.

The LT A400 is an Eiger, which are great quads. Either one would be great for a first time buyer. I'm very glad I bought 4wd, has come in handy many times. If you don't see alot of technical riding or mud 2wd might be fine. I always appreciate the piece of mind knowing all 4 wheels are helping pull me up a loose slope, or through mud.

I've owned boththe KQ300 and the Eiger - sold the KQ to get the Eiger in '02. The KQ is more of a utility bike while the Eiger is a better all-purpose trail ATV. Mine is 4wd, but you can go most places with a 2wd, especially if you have a winch. You can get stuck with 2wd, you can get stuck with 4wd but it's unlikely you'll get stuck if you have a winch.
