Yeah, but why do all that when you could just bend the upper one?

Nah, I'm not huge on the idea of bending my a-arms. I'd rather change something that's a little more affordable to replace if something goes wrong. Do you know of anyone the makes longer lower ball joints? Or maybe I could make something similar to a thread on wheel spacer.

wow randy! you got two posts in while i was typing up that last one haha!

so anyways, with the caster issue, are there any other more dangerous risks other than hard steering?

Yeah, I'm slick.

If you get the caster the other way... Opposite of hard steering, then the quad is squirrelly and dangerous (ie. a stock king quad 700 with beefy tires - a death trap). When you turn, the wheels can lock from the weight of the machine and you won't be strong enough to pull the handlebars back to center. The best you could do is yank them from side to side until you either can slow down or flip... One or the other.

If the caster is "hard steering", then the wheels will always want to go straight. That seems pretty safe to me. Just hard to steer is all.

Just think of the front wheels of a shopping cart. Next time you're at the store, try to turn those wheels around the other way and push the cart w/o letting the wheels flip right back around on you. You can do it. Those wheels are called casters.

If you don't want to gullwing, you might be able to squeeze the bottom part of the frame together. CanAm says the closer together the frame is, the better. Not sure why, but I can kinda see it.

Probably not going to be able to find a longer balljoint that fits without modification.

The first page of this thread shows how mine are bent (I might have bent them more since, I can't remember). On one pic you can see the arms all the way down and it should be apparent why I bent them.... So the ball joints wouldn't bind when the arms go down that far. Plus, so I could pull in the top of the tire to fix the camber problem.

oh and justrandy, just in case i would have to mod the upper balljoint's location to fix my caster, im guessing i'd make a bracket like this:
