eiger "prime"

eiger "prime"
I have an 02 eiger thats been giving me problems. I had just rebuilt the carb, all jets gasket needle etc.. and installed a new 130 main jet because it was running to lean and because the forums here recomended it and also the airbox mod. After the rebuild it does run better, no popping through the rear of the carb and backfiring as before, so the rebuild did help but it is now running very rich I had initially put a 135 jet in, way to rich so stepped it down to a 130 and it does do better but still rich. The air screw is backed out 1 1/2 turns. Now I noticed that there is gas inside of the air box when it is on prime. I know what prime means. This has never happened before, I bought this eiger in 03 and have never had this happen before when its on prime. whats the deal with the vacuum operated petcock, can it go bad or what, or how do you tell if its bad? Im trying to take care of this eiger, even bought a service manual and adjusted the valves etc but the manual does no explain any of these things. As far as altitude goes I live in the In Alvin Tx in the gulf plains area, there really isnt any altitude here thats why we flood all the time. Any eiger guy please help so I can get this thing lined out!

If gas is going in air box while in prime, then the float is stuck or not adjusted right. If this is the case and you leave it in prime while setting it will fill up the airbox and cylinder/crankcase. If very little fuel in airbox while running then it could be just way to rich.
You can try to run it with the airbox lid off. If it runs better then i would go down in size of the main jet (128 or 126).

i thought its used if the bike is run completely dry (since theres no gas past the shutoff to get the engine going and generating vacuum to open the shutoff).
but anyway, theres no reason to have it on prime, so why does the leak really matter? does it do it in the regular "on" position?
