Default lt250r transmission or clutch problem

i recently bought a lt250r (not sure what year) that needed some work. im not sure whats wrong with it, but whenever i get it started and try to shift into first from neutral, it dies. it acts like the clutch isnt being pulled in at all. but, whenever its not running and im pushing it around, it will move when its in gear the same way it will move in neutral. so, im thinking its a transmission problem but im not positive. if so, do i have to get a whole new transmission or can i just adjust it or something along that line.

all help is appreciated!

The first issue, stalling when putting it in gear is almost surely a clutch/clutch cable issue. There should only be about an 1/8" of play at the lever or so. If you have more than that and can't adjust the cable any more, time to try a new one. The second issue could be several things, but it is weird you have both issues at once. It is possible the clutch plates are toast and not engaging fully, allowing you to push the machine while in gear. Time to buy a shop manual and get to work!
