Default LT80 worn piston.... Pics

I recently broke a stud trying to tighten the head nut. I ordered replacement pieces and upon taking off the head discovered this:

Any suggestions on what to do for a replacement.. Do I need a replacement? it looks pretty rough to me.

Whoa yea. You need a top end rebuild.
I don't see a number on the piston so I'll presume it's the original bore. You'll need to wire brush it to see for sure.
If so,You'll need a .5 over piston then a bore to match.
I recommend Suzuki parts.
It ran w/o oil IMO.

Certainly a lube problem. Also check for air leaks that cause it to run lean.

You bought it running, correct? I'll presume you didn't hear anything wrong.
IMO, if it wasn't for you breaking the stud you'd not know for a while.
I'd bet the seller didn't know there was a problem. They run forever even with things wrong.
Once fixxed, it'll give you 10x the $$ worth.
2 strokes are cheap.

I would block off the oil injection if you haven't already. This place has really good prices on Zuki stuff :

Not to start a war or anything, but why is everyone so down on the oil injector? the first thing i see in a lot of LT80 posts is "dump the injector". Years back, I bought a very well used 87 LT80 for my 5 yr old son, put a piston in it, ran it very hard for almost 5 years with no problems, sold it to a buddy for his son, 3 years not a hitch, he sold it, far as I know, still running on the same 20 some year old injector system you all seem to hate so much. As long as you look once in a while to see the oil being used, and with 2 strokes, the smoke out the tail tells you its there, I dont see any problem running the factory set up, so much easier to just carry gas and not have to premix all the time, yes, if you race or mod the motor, having the right mix is critical, but for a trail rider for the kids, why mess with a proven system?

That was the reason I blocked mine off "same 20 some year old injector system"
I don't worry now that the oil injector will give up. Some do it as preventative maintenance and I'm sure some have done after it failed after years of loyal service, it just may be the case for burgezz...just take a look at the photos.
It is although not so much a hassle for me pre-mixing, my son races MX and I always have premium quality gas/oil ready to pour.
