LT230 Start button
I recently picked up an '86 LT230. P.O. didnt have a key and there was no battery in it so the the way he always started it was to hold the start button down and use the pull starter (in which it started up first pull always). Well when I got it home I purchased/installed a new key/ignition and a battery. When I press the electronic start button nothing happens like the starter doesnt work however (if I cut the gas valve off so it wont actually fire up) when I hold the start button down and use the pull start the engine kicks over like the starter is working and keeps kicking over until I release the button. Im pretty new to the quads and electronic starts and not even sure where to start checking...any help would be great.

the starter could be weak so it cant do the initial kick over but when you help it the first pull it can keep it going but thats just a guess. n lol im in the exact situation he gave it to me with a 2 ignitions 1 in the norm spot n the other hanging off the side of the quad and wit no battery... but will it start if you dont hold down the start button n just leave it on

Well I think I found my problem. The neutral light does not come on so the start button will not work. Actually I know the neutral light kind of works because if I hold the start button down and pull start it the the neutral light comes on and off every rotation of the motor but as soon as I let the start button go the neutral light goes off. Can anyone tell me what color and where the wires are on the engine that trigger the neutral switch?

This time I really did figure out the problem. Yes the electronic start button did not work because the neutral light would not come on but the reason why the neutral light did not come on was because the fuse box was dirty....caked with oil and dirt. I disconnected it, cleaned it really good, put in a two new fuses, and wha-la neutral light came on! Neutral light on, start button works!!!
