King Quad Smokes when Started
#1
I have a 2005 700 King quad with 2,200 miles. I haven't started the machine in a month. when I started it for the first time the other day it blew a heavy smoke out of the exhaust which smelled like oil. Is it possible that the rings have turned?? or am i looking at bigger problems? The wheeler runs fine. It smokes for about 10 to 30 sec's and then goes away. after it's been running it doesn't seem to smoke unless it sits for a long period of time. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Check the valves for clearance and the stem guides for wear-oil could be oozing through. When the quad sits for a long time, the enough oil accumulates oil in the cylinder to cause the blue smoke at start-up.

WHO TOLD YOU THAT??? 'Course they're adjustable. As far as oil down the stem- forget it. Won't do any harm unless you subscribe to this global warming crap.

there are no set screws or nuts on the diagram he showed me.it has never had a valve adjustment.what all do i have to do to get to the valves, and how do i adjust them?

Probably has "shim-under-bucket" valve train.
You measure the valve clearance, then swap the current shim with a shim that is thicker or thinner in order to obtain the correct clearance.
