It looks like you put the shifter seal in backwards? There shouldn't be an space other than the hole in the middle.

 

I made sure all seals went flat side in, spring side facing out (with the tapered edge for the shaft/bearing race). The tightness even after torquing kind of scares me, not sure if a seal did not get all the way in but 50+ ft. lbs. torque should have pushed them all the way in right?

 

Ah, thats why, you installed the seals in backwards. The spring should go on the inside.

 

Are you sure? The old pictures from dissembly show the spring on outside (not facing the bearings)

 

Yeh, I'm sure. The last person did not install the seals correctly. Here is what it should look like, btw these pics are from a quadzilla, but same idea here, the spring always faces towards the inside.

Son of a b!tch thank you so much, better catch it now then any later! I hope I don't screw them up trying to get them back out now. Here is a picture of the old crank balancer seal:

 

Yeh I know, its better to have it right anyways. I think you can get seals on ebay for like $14 bucks if you mess it up, so its not the end of the world, its just that you have to wait another 3-5 days.

 

I was easily able to pop them out since I coated them in assembly oil, and reversed them. I think this is a new stator/coil too:



I replaced those stupid phillips style machine head screws with these stainless hex heads (easier to break torque on):



Problem is I didn't have any lock-tite on hand so I used Ultra Black on the threads (stator plate and flywheel) that should hold right?



Got the shift fork and clutch left on this side:

 

Welp got the clutch done, just need to put the cover on and do the water pump tomorrow then the entire bottom end will be FINALLY complete!



I'm stumped though, I have 3 extra oil seals in a small package (I had removed one probably the shift fork seal) I can't see where they would go. The water pump does not have one does it? Maybe these are extra 87-92 seals?

 

One is probably the clutch actuator seal on the clutch side case. One is probably the kick start seal. And the other, not sure.
