Default gas inside magneto cover

I recently purchased a 1986 lt230s for my son. It was flooding gas out overflow by air filter so I rebuilt the carb started it up and noticed I had fluid coming from mag cover. I bought a new gasket and took cover off to find atleast half a gallon of gas inside. Is this just from prior carb issue.

Probably gas filled the crank case and leaked through the crank seal. Gas sitting in a crank case can distort them. Change the oil and filter also if you haven't already.May need to replace the seal also.

Sorry originally was thinking of the LT250R 2 stroke on this. Think the LT230 has a wet stator as many 4 strokes do. Gas just passed the crank bearing into the stator/flywheel area. Changing oil and filter along with repairing the carb should be enough.Hopefully gas didn't dilute the oil enough to wash the rings down along with damaging crank bearings.

It could be from what Old Polaris Tech said. On my 230s the float needed adjusted and was pouring gas into the cylinder when not running. The gas flows around the rings and down into the oil. If your gas was pouring out on top of your motor case, the rubber seal around those coil wires on top of the mag cover might have let it the gas in at that point. If you've solved your carb leak problem then an oil and filter change should have you running. Yes it is a wet stator so you won't need to change a seal. The lt230sVault has excellent carb rebuild and adjustment instuctions with pics!
