I just test drove the '87 Zilla today

Man you guys were right about the power.
This bike rocks I gotta have it.

I had a 98 Wolverine first then I made the mistake of taking my wife riding and she wanted a quad for herself. So I bought a 2001 DS650
Then I figured were I go, (logging roads, fire roads, and wide trails not much mud) I really didn't need 4X4 any more.
So goodbye Wolv.
But then I need another bike to ride with my wife so I began looking.

I wanted another new bike but

I DID NOT WANT ANYMORE MONTHLY PAYMENTS!!!

So I looked for used quads.

Back to the quad

It looks like it has been in a time warp.
The bike looks in excellent shape but not like the guy replaced some parts. Everything looks the same or similar age.
The plastic is mint
The seat is mint but not like a new one.
No cracks in the frame from what I could see.
The brake pads are worm a little and so are the tires.
The bike was cold when I got to see it. I jumped on it and started it on the second kick.

When I saw it I was drooling but trying to look casual about it.

When I rode the thing I could not believe the power from a TWO STROKE LOW END POWER!!

I may pay more than what I wanted to but I think it is worth it!

A world of difference from the 250 quadracer.

The bike was smooth from idle if I took it easily but violently fast if I nailed it. In every gear. I could not believe it!!!
I know I am repeating myself but a two stroke with torque?!!!

Thank you for steering me in the right direction guys!!!

I knew you'd be happy. People who haven't ridden it don't know what they're missing. Nothing has that power.....nothing.

The Quadzilla is the 500cc Two stroke right?
Can it whip a Raptors a$$, or a cannondale?
How well does it trail ride?
How well does it wheelie?
How well does it MX?
Thanks a lot for the help!

Yeah its a 500cc 2- stroke, and stock for stock, will whip ANYTHINGS A$$, and equally modified against equally modified, will whip ANYTHINGS A$$. OK? How good it works for trailriding or MX racing all depends on how good you can handle the power, and it wheelies pretty easily.....sometimes too easily!!!!!

Hey showtym,

Welcome to the Zilla gang I too own an 87. Just hope you know, you are now riding the bike that all future bikes will be compared against! My first ride i knew it straight away....wat have i got myself into hehe. I still have my 98 banshee and i took that for a spin last week while the zilla is off the dirt, and all i did was yawn hehe.

First thing to buy now is a manual. Like i said in my earlier post, a few mechanical components on the machines may need replacing from time to time due to its age. Never fear cause the suzuki manual is awesome for this. It'll help you out heaps and it'll teach you heaps about your new mean machine. Good to hear you picked up a bargain. At least you know you can get most of your money back when it comes time to sell

Mudmunster,

HUGE 2 stroke power Vs HUGE 4 stroke power......2 Stroke will win......

I raced an 01 raptor against my 87 zilla and it was no comparison.
Zilla wins everytime...except that one time when we ran out of fuel hehe.
They wheelie very very easy. With the weight and the torque...its damn easy
Woods trails is actually what i like about it the best. They turn on a dime and its a simple case of point and shoot. They also do THE meanest power slides ive ever seen. As for MX, i have to say i will have more information next year when i start racing. But i think they should be pretty damn good. They handle very well (Showa Shocks as standard!) Very wide stance and heaps and heaps of power...should equal a decent MX machine.

jugallo it says in my Zilla's manual that the dryweight of the big yellow beast IS 392 lbs. What is the dry weight of your 400EX, just curious.

Well still though, lets see. 400EX: 27hp to 375lbs LT500R 55hp to 392 lbs. Still not a bad ratio if you ask me.
