Shocks on my Zilla have taken a dirt nap. I dont do a lot of jumping, but I do enough to justify a decent shock. Anyone on here have any opinions? My main concern is price since the worst aftermarket shock has got to be worlds better than the stock ones. I see where Works advertises thier base shocks for the Zilla for $299 a pair, Any thoughts?

I would opt for a set of Works Steelers, they are a good shock for a decent price. Also the front shocks on the Zilla are rebuildable, one of the few sets that are, and if valved right the Showa originals are pretty good equipment.

I have a Works UltraCross rear shock. It is pretty old now and has been rebuilt three times. I would not give it my vote of approval. I had Ohlins on my 1991 LT250 (shouldn't have sold it) and I would like to have those on my 500. Spend the money and buy the Ohlins.

I definately agree with you LT5001987, when it comes time for me to by new legs for the Zilla, I would settle for nothing less than Ohlins, but you will surely pay for their quality... However, if price is a concern there are less costly alternatives. Like I mentioned before I opted to have all mine rebuilt and they handle pretty darn good, and at the time it was easier and cheaper for me to have them rebuilt for about $200. then to shell out anywhere from $800. to $1,500. for an all new set. Now that I've saved my pennies, I can afford to buy the Ohlins, when my stockers bite the bullet.

A good cycle shop should offer that kind of repair, or you could pick up any type of ATV magazine and you'll find a few shops in the advertisement section that rebuild shocks. You might not want them rebuilt back to stock specs. You would want them rebuilt for the type of riding you do and your weight.

Rebuild them. I've sent a few sets to PEP, and they are the best. They can add remote res's. Take advantage of the quality Showa units you have. Wayne at PEP will make them work for you.

SuperJetter, couple of questions 1. how much did PEP charge for the rebuild with the remote res. I had mine rebuilt by a local shop who did an outstanding job with the revalve, but I wasn't aware of adding remotes. 2. if had one more 500 could you possibly register as a dealer...That's a lot 500s.

Can't recall the price for the remote res. When he does the "shock mod" for front shocks for LT500's, he adds a Schrader type valve at the bottom of the shock. This allow you to recharge the shock with nitrogen. I recall paying $150.00 for his shock mod for the front pair. Number of 500's - in process of selling them as I'm not riding as much in Texas. All are set up for dunes - Glamis, and I only make that trip once a year.
