as i said alot of people talk about things they know nothing about. The banshee is a great quad if you like to replace axles, and swingarms. If you're into all that then go for it...

10+ COMPANIES JUST FOR BANSHEE!!! COOL!! That gives me another good reason to buy one!! Al,nobody cares, and everybody knows that alotta people talk **** about things they know nothing about,so please stop reminding us. If you think banshees are pieces of junk,ok thats your opinion you're entitled to it. But if you wanna remain on these forums for a lengthly amount of time,I suggest you not call any particular quads pieces of junk.

BTW what do you ride??

Hey, rc3, the easiest way to check for worn bearing inserts in the cases is to remove the stator cover (shifter side of motor) grab ahold of the stator and try to move it side to side, up and down, or in and out like there's no tomorrow.........ANY play will be a good sign you need to have inserts put into your cases........

As far as the Zilla being unreliable....BULL ****...I got my Zilla restored just about the same time my 2 buddies bought their 01 Raptors, and so far one of 'em just bored his over because it was smoking, and both had to replace 4th gear, and one had to replace an axle..I know to check for loose bolts, keep everything cleaned and lubed, and I have yet 1 single solitary problem that's needed attention, so if you have at least a 1/4 brain (a LUCKY canadian, by the way) and have a half a$$ed idea what maintainance is, there's no reason an LT500R won't last as well as a new 4 stroker, other than the fact its between 12 and 15 years old...Latah....

I just finished work on my LT500R. The Squid that owned it before for me did a very bad job on maintainance. I had to rebuild the low end and top end, new bearings in the swing arm and rear suspension, new sprocket hub, front wheel bearings and arm bearings. They are very reliable machines, this one ran very well even with the bad maintanance. It is a MONSTER now. The '87 has some blown gasket trouble but that can be easily fixed with some Loctite gasket adhesive.

1/4 brain (a LUCKY canadian, by the way)!!! What the hell is that supposed to mean fasternu ??? just because you found one sour grape, it doesn't mean the whole batch is bad ... I have seen my fair share of Braindead idiots from every country in the world, including the U.S.A.!!

Why is it that every time some diehard zilla enthusiasts come on here to shoot the **** about their pride and joy quadzillas some moron with a banshee has to come on here and start an argument?? is there not a yamaha site on this forum for you people to go to and waste someone elses time ??

Anyway I have better things to do than to argue on line all night long.
I own a 1987 LT500 which when I bought it was bagged to crap and needed some work , I stripped it down replaced every single bushing and bearing from the bottom of that quad to the top. had the frame powdercoated and replaced the plastic, it basically looks and rides like it just rolled off the showroom floor. Except .... it's bored 100 over, FMF Fatty, Powercore silencer, K&N, Boyeson reeds, Barnett racing clutch, rejetted the carb, and put in over sized head bolts.I now have what I consider a new quad or as close as you can get, I have a total of about $5800.00 Cdn into it, I bet fasternu is surprised I can count that high ..ha ha

I ride with 3 banshees and a raptor almost every weekend through the mountains, dunes, skagg, and some pretty sick ****. My brother has done quite a few mods to his shee and so have his buddies and we all ride em like we stole em.

You cannot compare a banshee to the " Widowmaker" (quadzilla) they cannot keep up to me , not even close . and as far as reliable goes it's like anything if you take care of it properly and maintain it , it will last .

I will throw some pics of the old girl on here as soon as I get them back.

RC3
There is no real way to tell if the crankcase inserts have been put into a Zilla from just looking at it. The repair entails having the crankcase bored larger at the crank bearing hole and inserting metal sleeves (not aluminum). You would have to trust the person you're buying it from to tell you the truth or show you a reciept. If you ask the guy and he goes "uhhh, yeah and it really hauls ***" I would just count on having it done.
