Lt230 NEED HELP rings
#11
i've been running synthetic in my 230s and havent noticed anything bad, i never knew syn. oil did that to oil seals. all ive heard is that it makes your clutch slip, but i got the SPECIAL oil.also, the 230s should be no problem to do yourself it isnt that complicated.

no no , it smoked just as bad as before, so i shut it off, and i am going and getting a new sleeve installed, as well as the valves seals. i did not want to damage brand new rings, and piston, so i shut it off.

I would think your rings are fine, unless the cyclinder walls were bad, and chipped the rings. I WOULD NOT run the bike hard after the first warm up. I would follow the traditional break in period that is almost always reccomended.

ThequickOne- have you ever had a motor apart before? The 230 isn't all that difficult, but bieng a 4 cycle there is a lot of stuff that could be messes up. I highly recomend a camcorder, or a digi cam and a ton of pics showing how everything went. I'd have a compression test done, it may not be the rings, and may just be valve seals.

thanks again mbrooks. i am returning my la sleeve, because fact is it does not fit, damn. so what i am doing is just getting the thing bored .20 over, and getting a weisco piston kit 20 over, i guess. the valves are great, reason i say that is because, the motor it was pulled from just threw a rodm but never smoked, and used to start right up.
