Just out of curiousity. I took my stock 42mm Mikuni off recently and was wondering what good it is now. If anyone thinks it will work on a modded Z400 I could let it go cheap. What size is the stock carb on the Z400? WIll the 42mm be too big.

Great question!

I think to all Z400 owners that plan on "bore jobs" or "head work" should check out the 42mm thats comes off of the DS's. And I'm willing to bet that there are plenty of 42mm out their. So before you ZUKY riders pay TOO much check with us DS guys.

I never thought about this. People are sticking 39's on their Z's that are totally stock and its a nice power boost down low. I think I would need to have my motor built pretty good to utilize the 42mm. I think this is a great find for us Z owners if it works. I'll let my fellow Z owners know about this thread in our forum!

The 39 is plenty large for the 400cc engine. The 42 will decrease the velocity of the air and cause a hesitation.

I would expect to see that at low rpm's on a stock bike and definitley wouldn't suggest it for that application. A modded 440,450, whatever big bore they make might be a different story.

If I remember correctly, the two-strokes run at a higher rpm and that is why the fcr carbs have an accelerator pump for the lower rpm four-strokes. With a two-stroke carb your performance will greatly decrease on the bottom end.
