Acording to the Clymer manual for my 86 lt250r, the timing is non adjustable. Here is what it says.

The engine is equipped with a capacitor discharge ignition system (CDI). This systenm uses no breaker points, and there is no means of adjusting the ignition timing. Suzuki does not provide any ignition timing procedures.

I didn’t find anything in the manual specifically about a hole in the piston.
Usually a float sticks all the way up or down. All the way up would cause no fuel to get in and it wouldn’t run, down would cause it to flood.
Are you running the correct spark plug (NGK B8EG)? Is there damage to the piston anywhere else? What fuel/oil ratio do you use? Most people run 32:1 but I run 20:1 (the manual says 20:1) so far the smoke is more but tolerable and I have not fouled a plug yet so I see no reason to use less oil.
A 2stroke doesn’t have valve timing but does have ignition timing. Incorrect timing could cause your problem. You could pull of the magneto and check the key that holds it in place on the crankshaft. If it’s partly sheared it could affect timing. There are also keys made for some bikes to change the timing but I’ve not heard of one for a Quadracer. Also, while it’s off check all the magnets and coil make sure nothing is bent, loose or broken.

More than likely it was a lean condition that put the hole in there. Unless you had the wrong spark plug or something.
Most after market companies use spacer plates for custom piston jobs wich corrects port timing. But the CDI ignition is not adjustable, unless a key sheered like formally stated.
Did the electrodes burn off the spark plugs or anything?

the plug looked as if it where sitting in the bottom of the ocean for 10 yrs. really fould and grey. what i have done so far is put the new piston rings and bearings back in the bored out head, got the right plug( the one that was there before looks more like a car plug compared to the plug i just picked up at the cycle shop) , and she started =). i cleaned the carb out and noticed a float was kinda sticky so i cleaned everything and notice that the writing on the main jet read 350???? is this correct? it has been professionaly ported and now bored out with a direct carb filter but i thought everyone runs around 220.
