dampinging and rebound

Has anyone done much with dampening and rebound on their quads? whats it do and what are the imporvements or bad stuff about it? I have a Z400 and want to know if I should change it?

It helps tremendously if you do some adjusting on both t he front shocks and rear shock. The first thing I did was decrease the Damping on the rear shock. Right to stiffen Left to soft. You can try it out and ride it to see where you like it. Off the showroom floor the bike will bounce all over the place. Depending on your weight I would adjust the rear two to four clicks to the left. Remember the top of the shock is rebound and the bottom is damping.

See http://off-road.com/atv/suspension/shockadj.htm First be sure your PRELOAD (ride height or sag) is set correctly. If you have not done that, everything else is a waste of time. As far as damping, your stock front shocks are not adjustable for either compression or rebound!! The rear is adjustable for both. I found several more clicks in (slower) on rebound was necessary. My rear shock blew after only about 40 hrs, so I now have a new set of WorksPerformance shocks to play with!!
