I recently purchased a used Suzuki Quad. I want to obtain a manual and need to know for sure what the model and year is on the unit. Can I find that from the serial number? The motor shows a 229cM3 so it's a 230 but is it a Quad Runner, Racer, or Sport? How do I know the difference?

 

The quad racers were 2 strokes this bike is probably a 230 quad sport 4 stroke

You can tell from the vin# if you know how to read them. It'd be simpler to call a dealer and give the vin# to them. They'll be able to tell you anything you want to know.

 

i think the quadrunner had electric start and automatic clutch,and the sport had kick start and manual clutch

 

This sounds just like my 230 QuadSport. It has a kick starter and 4 speed manual. You might find your numbers on the frame in front of the motor on the bottom right side.

 

Thanks for all the replies on the 230 Quad. I called the dealer and it was identified as a 1985 Quad Sport 230. All your replies seem correct. I wish it was a Runner with the electric start! It looks like the shift mechanisim has been modified. Did the original come from the motor to the back of the foot rest in a double kind of linkage?

 

Yes they had that stupid linkage. It makes the shifting not as positive but it works.
