How fast does your lt250 go?

Maybe that dude is just popping it up to second straight out of neutral instad of kicking it down in first... maybe that is why he thinks he has 5 gears...

In 1st gear my '89 QR outruns cheetahs. 2nd goes by faster than the human eye can detect. In third, the sonic boom interferes with bowel and bladder control. I've never even used 4th. In 5th, it becomes impossible to breathe, and all the blood in my body is violently pushed to the back of my a$$. When I pop the clutch in 6th, my watch runs backward and the sun quickly sets in the east. Does my jetting sound right?
If that fails then check your flux capacitor...

just tested my 90 with the listed mods and just changed my oil from red line to opti 2... screams now... drag next to my parents caravan and it just broke 80... but im sure mid to high 70's... thats pretty quck for me !! considering im only 110 lbs !!

Now that's more like it should be running, and you being lighter weight like you are is naturally going to make it run faster. Being 110 pounds does have its advantages, but it also has some disadvantages too... Traction can sometimes be a problem when climbing hills or in mud, and on a really powerful quad it can make handling really tricky. One of these days when I get the carb adjusted right on my LT500 and get the beadlocks on the rear so I can keep the tires mounted on the wheels I will find out just how fast that one actually is... Sounds great... im sure that 500 should at least break 80... up the gearing i bet you will be dead on 90.... im not a big fan on speed just the quickness it takes to get there... ya handling for me isnt an issue... i know my bike and it knows me..... but i have never ridin in dunes so... cant say anythin there

hey hey lets not get off on the wrong foot ...i mean tire now . I didnt mean to offend you TOM but upper 60 i cant believe. anyways i looked at the frame and it says MFG BY SUZUKI MOTOR COM. IN 1987 so i dont know why i only have 5 gears . Ishift 1 down and 4 up

Well it is possible that maybe somebody swapped in a different motor and it is out of a 1985-6.. The easiest way to tell is look at the right side of the motor and see if you have a window for a powervalve, then look at the back side of the cylinder and see if you have a square boot attached to the reedcage... See also if the boot has one bolt on the top side or two... If you have a window and the boot has one bolt in it, then you have a 1987 motor there is also no oil level check plug on a 1987... If you have a window and the boot has 2 bolts in it then you have a 1988 or newer.. If there is no powervalve and the boot on the back side of the cylinder is round and there is no reed cage on the outside of the cylinder then you have a 1985-6.. 1985-6 do have the oil check plug.. OH and another difference the head on a 1985-6 does not have a mounting bolt for a headstay....
The frame is different on the 1985-6 - there is a straight bar running down in front of the motor. The 1987 and newer have a horseshoe shaped bar in the front on them...
They all had the seesaw looking rear shock cushion arm except for the 1991-1992 models...
The 1985-6 had 1" shorter a-arms with 12" long shocks with thinner mounting locations on the a-arms and shocks and a round bearing carrier in the swingarm... The 1987 has 14" long shocks wider a-arms and a boxy looking swingarm similar looking to the ones used on the Z400.. Maybe this will help ya figure out what you have...

Huedog,
Are you sure its a lt250? If it was a lt500 then it would have 5 gears in 1987 and would easily hit 88mph with a 15 tooth sprocket. If you were riding a lt500 and thought it was a lt250 that would also explain why you dont believe a lt250 does upper 60's with stock gearing.
