Kind of new to quads- several questions about my LT230 Quadsport
I had an '88 230 Q'Sport and the MSO on that said it had 22 HP. This would be at the crank of course. As far as hill climbing, if you can ride worth a hoot, this machine will take you up hills that will give a mountain goat nightmares. I actually have a set of front brake pads for the darn thing and I sold it back in '89. I believe the weight was around 353 lbs.

The 230 can be built to be fairly quick. Mine would easily run with a stock Blaster. It all depends on what kind of riding you do. Mine was strickly a woods bike. The very first mod I would do is the rear end. You say you already broke a mag cover so I am guessing you have the oval style axle carrier? The one with the 2 adjusting bolts to tighten it. If so you need to take it off and throw it away. (or sell it on e-bay ) It will only cause you to break chains and probobly more covers. You need to get an old style round axle carrier that is adjusted by turning the whole carrier. Tjis is a way better setup, and much easier to adjust. I broke 7 chains in 1 year(never broke a case somehow) with the oval style. I bought an older parts bike and swapped out the swingarms. I think I only broke 2 chains since I made the swap and I used to do a whole lot of riding. Next do a search for "quadsport case saver" This will make it pretty hard to break cases in the future. I didn't realize how late it was I have to go. Will post later about which motor mods worked for me.

Hey, I have an '87 LT230 and I think the DG RCM aluminum pipe is really nice. It's cheap, it has really nice welds and fits really good, and it sounds a helluva lot cooler than I woulda thought. I went with a Uni filter which seems to work pretty good since my motor still runs (nothing has wrecked my engine yet) and it's about half as much as the K&N. I'm thinking about that Web .360 lift cam too, sounds good.
