Please help me here. I have been lookin for a cheap sport bike that has some speed and power and i have found a 86 lt 250r for $900 and there is 2 problems with it. One is that there is no back brakes, and 2 there is a small crack in the plastic the guy how owned it just died of cancer.
And im pretty sure we could get the price down a bit. And is it hard to find parts for these lts.
Well thganks for any info

the only thing is this bike has 5 gears while the later LT250s had 6 gears. And also the swing arms on the LT are junk if you do alot of jumping or hard riding they crack right at th piviot bolt

go for an 86 suzuki quadsport 230, lasts a long time, great for trails, and has good speed, great handeling, and looks nice, also, good for jumps

My lt250r 86 has never been apart accept this year the piston had a crack in it, thats a good run for ruinin the hell out of it. And for the swingarm i always do jumping no problem with the swingarm. It has been pretty reliable. Top speed stock around 60mph

85 and 86 models were less desirable because they are 5-speeds, case-reed inducted, and have weaker swingarms (only a concern if you plan on serious MX). Check the swingarm for cracks around where bottom linkage brackets are welded, make sure there aren't any cracks. 85-86 LT's can be made to haul, I had an '86 that was very strong. You could probably find whatever is missing on the rear brakes by calling East Coast ATV salvage (number is in back of Dirt Wheels), or watching E-Bay for parts. If it runs good and is in decent shape it's easily worth $900.
As far as running with a KX100, why does it matter? If you want to outrun a dirt bike, then why not buy a 250 MX bike? A dirt bike is way lighter, has less rolling resistance, not to mention less wind drag....
