automatic/electric choke

automatic/electric choke
I have an AC TBX500 with symptoms of what I believe is a faulty electric choke . I believe the carb is a Keihnin cvk36.
The symptoms are that it starts and idles just fine. However, when the motor is fully warm and under power, it backfires and will eventually cut out. Once fully warm it will also cut out if in neutral and being reved, even slightly.
My question is: Does anyone think this is a correct diagnosis? And..... How do I test the electric choke to see if it is working - or not?
If I pull the electric choke out of my carb and run voltage thru it, should there be any noticeable movement of the brass pin and sleeve assembly. How does this system work?
Any clarification of this problem is greatly appreciated!!
