I have 1997 sportsman 500. my pull start cord broke and wrapped up inside my case. a short time after, I started hearing a rattle noise inside the case. 2-3 min. after it stopped running. I was told it was the stator, had it check it's like new. Now I am being told its the CDI? Before I buy a CDI, Regulator, Coil.... does anybody have any feed back on this?

Welcome to the forum Sportman 97. Post your question in the Polaris section and people will be glad to help you. Is the cord still wrapped up in there?

jumbofrank, thanks! thats where I wanted to put it. I will re-do.

No, I have taken the case off. the whole pull start rope, pulley, etc... was wasted. the metal clog was broke in half and was rattling around. this is why I was told it probable broke a wire on the stator. I had the stator checked and its fine. Dealer is telling me it's the CDI? but if I change the CDI I should chage the regulator as well?
