What do you use?

I have a trailer and nothing to pull it now. So I'm trying to decide if I should buy a truck or just another jeep (or something) to pull my trailer. It kinda gets under my skin that they charge so much for truck registrations compared to other vehicles. It would also be more convenient to just use a truck but a trailer isn't too bad. What do you use the most to haul. Truck or trailer?

I've been using my Dodge Ram. Being a 4x4, the bed height makes putting the Rancher in and out a bit dicey, but Oh how much better it carries in a truck (taking it from home overto the 1881 Ranch - 350 miles).
All that said, today, Miz OJC is giving me a flat bed utility trailer for my birthday so I don't have to sweat ramping it in and out of the trunk except when I'm pulling the RV trailer.

I use a Chevy 1/2 ton stepside and also a 2 place trailer(looking for a 4). What is alot($) for truck regstration? I pay about 100 bucks every 2 years plus 70 for IM testing/ certificate. Is it more then that?AKBoy.

When I got my first ATV 10 years ago, I had no truck & no trailer, i just tagged along with family & friends. Then I got a new '94 Toyota PU which was just the right size for my Scrambler, toolbox & gas can. Then I got another quad so I had to buy a small trailer. Then I got a small RV to pull the trailer & liked the comcept so well that I got a bigger RV. Then I got anothewr quad, so I had to get a bigger trailer. Enclosed trailer this time to keep the quads out of the garage. Then I got a real ***-kicker tow vehicle. It's a 24' Class "C" RV built on a Dodge Ram 1-ton chassis, 24 valve Cummins deisel & 4X4! I've never been stuck since I got it.

I need to haul lots of passengers, so my tow vehicle is a 4X4 Suburban with a 4" lift. I got the half-ton, because at the time, I was intending to get a motorhome for camping. After constantly rescuing my friends who get stuck in their motorhomes, I have given up that idea. I now wish I had gotten a heavier truck and a huge Weekend Warrior toy hauler trailer!
I have both a flat trailer for day trips and warm weather camping, and an enclosed trailer for winter camping. Both trailers have 16' of floor space. I can fit 3 full size quads and both 90's on either trailer.
If you get a truck, figure out what amount of power you will need, THEN DOUBLE IT! You won't regret it in the long run!

If your going to keep expanding the number of quads or want to haul camping stuff too you can't beat a oil burner. I had a 1/2 ton GMC good truck but hauling 4 quads and camping gear for 4 people was starting to be too much for it. Bought a 3/4 ton Powerstroke way better pulls 4 quads on a car hauler trailer and can still put one in the bed plus haul camping gear and the hills don't even faze it. I will never buy another none diesel for pulling anything.

I think a car or jeep registration is around $36.00 a year. Trucks are at least $50.+ maybe closer to $60. (I tried to ask a friend about the truck reg. but couldn't get a hold of him.) My trailer is something like $6.00 a year. It would be nice to have a truck just in case I get another quad. (1 in truck, 1 on trailer) I guess I could always buy a larger trailer.

I like those slide in racks for the trucks but I have not found a double for a stepside. Thought about making one for it and bolting it to the frame but the 4 place enclosed I want would suit me better.
I like the two year registration we have, gives you time away from the long lines at the DMV office.AlaskaBoy.
