1996 s -10 w/ a 2.2 pulling the cuesta (northbound) at 60 mph at 4500-5000 rpms in third gear, that cant be too good (with the 400 in the back)..last night at 9:00 leaving pismo, i was tired and still had another 200 miles to go, at least the oil is fesh
oh well its getting replaced and turned into a worktruck, even though its not capable of much work.
i thing you should just suck it up and travel a little slower if you figure it out, you wont gain more than a few minutes of time

26 ft trailer is going to squash your 6.0 gas engine. Learn to live with it. Just cruise. There is pretty much nothing you can do to get the kind of power you want, and still stay legal, and have any kind of reliability.
If you want to go faster, get the Duramax or the Ford 6.0 liter diesel. My buddy has a 24 foot funrunner and tows it with the Ford 6.0 liter, and when I'm commuting empty in my chevy, I get 14 miles a gallon, when he pulls his funrunner at 80 miles and hour, he gets 15 MPG....go figure.
You can only get so much out of the gas motor.

Well.......all I can say is read my signature now!..........Yes I went and took the plunge. That Badboy set me back 36K but, they payed off my 02 2500hd and plus gave me a grand on top of payoff, also the 4K rebate really helped to. I go and pick it up today @ 4:30pm

And to think for that kind of money you could have gotten a real truck. Power Stroke; Much more reliable, to much hype about the duramax. Lots of head and injector problems. I have friends in the business that have told me to stay with Ford until Chevrolet and Isuzu can work out the bugs. Let me know how it works for you. I like Chevy, but am unsure about the duramax. Good luck and Happy Birthday. Gebo

Gebo, I'm not trying to start a brand war, but there is no way anyone can claim the new 6.0 Powerstroke is more reliable than anything. Visit a few Ford enthusiasts websites/forums and you'll see what I'm talking about. There have been numerous problems with the 6.0. I read on one of the news website ( I believe it was CNN - could be wrong though) that the release of the new 6.0 Powerstroke was the most flawed new release in Ford's history. A few of my friends have them and when they're running right, they definitely are strong but most of my buddies have had them in the shop a few times to correct various running problems. Right now, I'd definitely go with a Duramax over a Powerstroke if I was buying a new truck, but I'm still happy with my '03 Dodge/Cummins so I'll just stick with what I've got.

I wasn't talking about the 6.0. I have a 7.3, and it is the most reliable deisel I have ever had. I have owned a 95 98 01 and now have an 03 F550 6 speed with a gear vendor. I won't own a 6.0, too many rpms for a deisel. I just bought my F550 about 4 months ago and really had to do some searching to find it, but I found one about 30 miles away, but would have flown to Washington state if I had to. I put about 100,000 miles a year on these trucks and the biggest problem I have ever had is an alternator once and a water pump twice. Every one of my Fords averaged over 300,000 miles pulling about 18,000#s everywhere they went. You won't get a brand war out of me. I still consider myself a Chevy man, but not with a Chevy deisel man. I still want to know how your Duramax does, because I think when they put cast iron heads on them and get the fuel injection problems worked out it will be a good truck. Although it will not be heavy enough for what I need anymore. Good luck, Gebo
