Well, here is my story. I started looking for a trailer when I bought my Arctic Cat. I wanted to go a little overkill so I could drag my buddies quads with me to keep us from driving a billion trucks. Not being in a rush I just sort of looked around. Soon I had 2 quads and only enough bed space in my truck for 1. Double driving to a local riding area got old fast. My best bud was on the quad search hot and heavy by now. Yet another to drag around.
I was focusing on looking at long-ish 5' and 6' wide utility trailers. Could not find anyhing worth a darn used, which is how I prefer to buy so save some $$. Having hunted a couple of months and also having gone through the same trials and tribulations with my last 2 trailers I started to focus on new. I soon discovered to get what I wanted I was getting in the upper $800 range, close to a $1000 at times depending on the "options" or builder. So, what did I do? Went to one of the local trailer guys that moves a lot of inventory (bulk pruchase, lower prices) and bought a 16' open car trailer. It has a 2" dove tail in addition the the 16' deck, 2 3500lb axles, brakes, under the deck ramps, and new wheels and tires. The model I got was an extra wide, right at 7'. The average around here for that lenght of trailer is 6'4". I have had 3 quads on it several times, no problem. Took a trip not long ago with one in the bed and 3 on the trailer. I could easily get 4 on the trailer loading sideways. My trailer has stake pockets down the side so it give me tons of options in terms of attachement points for tie downs. The stake pockets give you positive attachent points when pulling tie downs at angles. Simply going over the side would allow them to slip. $1550+tax on the road. The bonus for me is that I can use it for my cars when draging out my enclosed is a little more than I need. In actuality, that use factored in to push me over the edge as I had been wanting an open trailer for that reason alone for few years now.

I also would recommend the Car Trailer as the best option. For me it's a great option since I also have cars and parts cars to haul so I can get double duty out of it. To me if you are going to spend that kind of money anyway, why not get one with the versitility to use for other uses too. Just my $.02...

I've been thru several trailers and my current one really does the trick. It's a 14' all aluminum Sledbed twin axle. I can put 5 full size quads on it, normally haul 4, it's super light unlike those car trailers which weigh a million pounds. With 4 quads loaded I can manuever it around by hand. Cost me like $2400 new. 8' wide deck, two atv's front side by side and two on the rear same way. The only thing better is enclosed but that's too heavy to pull behind my 5th wheel.
