Another option - is to buy a second trailer for the wife's car.
This may sound silly; BUT! If all you have is 'family cars' the average towing capacity is 1000 lbs, the trailer will be between 300 - 500 lbs add the ATV 400 - 600 lbs and you are real close to the limits...
If you have two machines plus the gear need to ride - well you get my point.
So you could buy a truck ... expensive if you don't need a truck for any other purpose.
With two trailers you solve the problem, and the biggest pain is the extra gas bill when travelling - still cheaper than a truck or a new transmission.

my saab 9-3 has 2000 pound towing limit. i checked with the saab forum. http://www.saabcentral.com/forums/in...598e23f9c5a9a&
alot of people with good advice in here. so i know i can tow atleast one. the thing is is i know the wife will want her own quad eventually or i want to ride more agressively. i don't want a truck and the second car we have is a 2004 nissan maxima sl. id rather not use that for anything but driving.

Another thing, you may have to end up putting some air shocks on the car if you're towing 2 quads with it. I'm thinking that even if you only put about 200 pounds on the tongue of the trailer, you'll still squat the car more than you really want. Air shocks or helper spring will help level out your setup. Also, be real careful that you don't exceed the tongue capacity of the trailer hitch. I'm guessing you either have, or will have a 1" receiver on the car. Those small receiver hitches won't handle a real big load.

Good point toehanus. Anothing thing I hadnt considered was that 2000 lbs tow capacity is including his gear that is going to be in the car, plus him and his wife. So now that I have thought clearly about it, you will probly be over the weight capacity of the car with 2 quads. 650 lbs for the quads, 700 lbs for the trailer, (just using a round number here so dont take offense) 400 lbs for you and your wife. that leaves 250 lbs for gear, luguage, etc. Unless you can find a really feather lite trailer. They are out there, but can be pricey depending on age. That would open you up from 250 lbs for stuff, to 450 lbs.

Hey LaPurr,
I noticed in your profile that you ride Etons. I've got an 2004 Eton Yukon 150 that has a broken front sprocket shaft (don't know if that's the correct term or not). Do you happen to know of any online parts sources for Etons? KA210, sorry for hijacking your thread.

ok in a perfect world . 2 place trailer 350+ 500 rancher + trx250 360 that adds up to a tad over 1200 lbs . now i weigh 260. plus the wife is 130. we are at 1600 lbs . saab guys tell me 1k for no trailer brakes and 2k with max. since i'm on a limited budjet. I will do one quad one trailer till i can get something too tow 2 quads. have family members with trailers and able vehicles. so we will see how it plays out. its noting going to happen till feb at the earliest because we are getting married. In january. I just like to be prepared before hand before i make costly mistakes!

I have a 6x12 trailer with a 4ft drop gate/ramp that goes just under 600. Weighed it when I got it because the axel is rated at 3500lbs ..... but alot of peple forget to include trailer weight against the axel rating. I took off the gate and use ramps. I'm thinking Im right at 500lbs right now. The gate was pretty hefty.
You can get an entire axel with electric brakes or do a brake upgrade to your existing axel ..... but you still need to factor in max load. Plus consider weight distrubution as well. Your cars weight with a fully loaded trailer, that could get scary if you are going up and down big hills or mountians. I have a Suburban that I tow with. We took out the rear seat for gear, tools and beer --- had the trailer with my 400ex, 700Raptor and a 500Foreman and swayed a little going through the mountains of West Virginia.
